THE OPPORTUNITY

The Relationship Manager, Client Relations leads the firm’s business relationships with their assigned clients and supports the Director for relationships with BCI’s large institutional investment funds, and the firm’s client engagement activities. The Relationship Manager, Client Relations plays an important role as a client expert responsible for in-depth “know your client” requirements. The position fosters a client-centric focus throughout the corporation, where our collective objective is to consistently exceed the performance and service expectations of our clients.

The Relationship Manager, Client Relations strives to be proactive in initiating contact and building relationships with clients. Responsibilities also include providing broad advice and presentations on investment products and policies, strategies, fund performance, compliance to client investment policies (SIPP’s), and generally serving as a client advocate to further client interests within BCI.

WHAT YOU BRING

  • At least 5 years of client relationship management and/or investment consulting experience and/or business development

  • An undergraduate degree in commerce, business, finance or economics

  • A high client-service orientation with demonstrated success in driving resolution of complex issues and consistently exceeding clients’ expectations

  • A successful track record building and maintaining relationships with institutional clients within an asset management organization

  • Ability to influence and negotiate outcomes that are mutually beneficial to clients and BCI

  • A strong conceptual and technical understanding of investment principles and practices spanning all asset classes (Fixed Income; Public Equities, Mortgages, Real Estate, Infrastructure and Private Equity)

  • Outstanding verbal and written communication skills at both the technical and strategic level, with high attention to detail

  • Proven ability to work collaboratively across departments to build credibility and strong relationships

  • Strong project management skills, with proven oversight of complex corporate projects/initiatives involving both internal and external stakeholders

  • Ability to work independently, in a fast-paced and team-oriented environment, where priorities change frequently, and deadlines are often under significant time pressure

Preferred:

  • A Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) designation or MBA

WHAT YOU GET TO DO

  • Champions BCI’s client-centric culture across the firm

  • Manages the firm’s client engagement efforts for assigned institutional client portfolios and delivers BCI’s world class client experience, striving to maintain and build client satisfaction and retention for strategic and complex client partnerships

  • Builds a close consultative relationship with clients and internal/external stakeholders

  • Remains proactive and highly responsive to client’s needs, to become the client’s primary advocate and to maintain BCI’s trusted advisor role

  • Supports the development of individual strategic client service and communication plans, tailored to their specific needs, for BCI’s key client relationships

  • Directs internal resources’ participation in client engagement activities

  • Supports client visits to review performance metrics/scorecards, to identify opportunities for improvements, as well as areas of success

  • Advises on client investment policy statements and pursuing recommended changes

  • Supporting client engagement on new/revised pooled fund products, as well as verifying compatibility of these products with the clients’ investment objectives

  • Supports the development and execution of retention strategies for vulnerable client relationships, leveraging the firm’s internal resources and organization

  • Conceptualizes and delivers presentations on a wide range of investment topics at various Investment Committee meetings, Board meetings, stakeholder meetings, webcasts and industry events

  • Writes, reviews and directs the development of client reports and briefings on a wide range of investment topics under tight timeframes to meet deadlines

  • Develops and maintains in-depth knowledge of each client’s individual circumstances (“know your client”) including investment objectives, return expectations, risk tolerance, time horizon, liquidity constraints, liability obligations (actuarial funding status, legislative constraints, stakeholder interests, etc.)

  •  Ensures clients’ investment strategies and policies are appropriate and prudent given the nature of the funds, their underlying liabilities and any legal constraints

  • Collaborates with clients and their agents to gather information on needs and opportunities.

WHERE YOU WILL WORK

Work from our downtown Victoria or Vancouver office.

SALARY RANGE

BCI offers a competitive total rewards package which includes a performance-based incentive plan, comprehensive health & dental benefits, a defined benefit pension plan and paid time off.

The annualized base salary range for this Victoria-based role is CAD $120,000 to $140,000.

The base salary offered to the successful candidate will consider a wide array of factors including but not limited to the individual’s skill set, level of experience applicable to the role they are being offered and consideration to internal equity.

We pay our people competitively in the markets in which we compete for talent and with consideration to internal equity and job structure. We aim for actual pay to be around the median of the market for target or expected levels of performance, and around the upper quartile of the market for excellent performance.

Actual salaries may vary and may be above or below the range based on various factors, including, but not limited to, experience and expertise.
