About the role .
We are looking for a Regulatory Affairs Specialist for a 6-month fixed term (with the potential to be extended) to help ensure our food products meet regulatory standards in Australia and New Zealand. Working closely with R&D and cross-functional teams, you'll review ingredients, labels, and marketing claims while staying up-to-date with the latest food legislation. This is an excellent opportunity to apply your expertise, influence product success, and gain experience with a leading global food manufacturer.
This role can be based in either Melbourne or Ballarat, with occasional travel required between the two locations.
What you'll be doing.
- Act as an in-house expert on food legislation and regulatory guidelines for Australia and New Zealand.
- Review product ingredients, formulas, and labels to ensure compliance with relevant food regulations.
- Support new product development, reformulations, and marketing claims by advising cross-functional teams (R&D, Procurement, Marketing).
- Monitor legislative changes affecting product composition, ingredients, and labelling requirements.
- Develop and maintain procedures for product formula and label approval.
- Advocate for and sponsor training initiatives to promote regulatory compliance across teams.
- Build and maintain relationships with regulatory authorities as needed.
- Communicate industry best practices and provide recommendations on regulatory positions.
- Ensure continued business continuity through proactive regulatory compliance activities.
What you'll need to be successful.
- Degree or equivalent qualification in Food Science or related technical discipline.
- 1-3 years experience in regulatory affairs, ideally within a large, global food manufacturing organization.
- Demonstrated expertise in food product composition, marketing claims substantiation, and labelling requirements.
- Good understanding of food safety standards, including microbiological and contaminant controls.
- Proven ability to lead and influence cross-functional teams and stakeholders.
- Strong communication skills, with courage to address and resolve complex regulatory issues at all organizational levels.
- Capable of setting clear standards and holding others accountable for compliance.
- Strong team player, adaptable to fast-paced environments and collaborative work.
