About the role .
We are seeking a dynamic Payroll Manager to lead a small central team responsible for the effective, efficient, compliant, and accurate delivery of payroll services across ANZ. With a strong customer-service mindset, you will oversee the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of payroll processes, systems, and policies that adhere to employment award and legal requirements. You will engage with stakeholders at all levels, including corporate headquarters in Melbourne and Toronto, and play a pivotal role in managing industrial relations and facilitating seamless ex-pat payroll experiences.
What you'll be doing.
- Lead and mentor a team of 3 payroll officers, fostering a safe, healthy, diverse, and inclusive environment.
- Ensure accurate and timely payments to wages and salary employees across Australia and New Zealand.
- Maintain and continuously improve payroll quality, efficiency, and compliance with local legislation and audit requirements.
- Interpret industrial agreements (Awards, Collective Agreements, Letters of Appointment) and ensure adherence to legal frameworks.
- Provide strategic input to industrial relations, cost analysis for negotiations, and participate in HR transformation initiatives.
- Support HR business partners in understanding legislative frameworks and union communication plans.
- Oversee ex-pat benefits and tax compliance programs, collaborating with global mobility and rewards teams.
- Manage payroll and time & attendance software (including upgrades and user access), and design specialist reporting for business needs.
- Resolve complex or contentious payroll queries, and provide senior guidance on payroll matters.
- Lead or participate in projects that enhance workforce and payroll outcomes.
What you'll need to be successful.
- Bachelor's degree in Business or HR, and/or 5+ years as Payroll Manager within a large organisation.
- Strong people leadership capabilities, fostering inclusivity and participation.
- Advanced expertise in payroll systems (e.g., Gensol), time & attendance (e.g., Dimensions), intermediate ERP skills (e.g., SAP).
- Demonstrated ability to interpret multiple awards and agreements across Australia and New Zealand.
- Advanced knowledge of employment legislation in both Australia and New Zealand.
- Strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and experience running multiple pay runs in the region.
- Track record in process improvement, change management, and project management (preferred).
- Experience with systems integrations and payroll transitions (preferred).
About the team .
Reporting to the Regional Controller ANZ, you will lead a team of 3 payroll officers (FTE 3.0) and collaborate closely with business leads across Finance, HR, Manufacturing, IT, and other functions. You will also work with internal stakeholders (wages and salary employees) and external stakeholders (union representatives).
