As a Technician Apprentice registered with the Department of Labor, you will take part in a program that prepares you for a long-term technical career at Micron. Apprentices will gain foundational skills supporting either semiconductor equipment handling or Facilities systems, based on business need, proficiency, and progression.
This earn and learn program is developed to align with your academic schedule while providing real-world experience maintaining, fixing, and improving critical manufacturing and infrastructure systems.
Program Scope
Registered Technician Apprentices could be assigned to:
- Fab Equipment Operations:
- Supporting semiconductor production tools used in wafer manufacturing
- Facilities & Infrastructure Systems:
- Supporting HVAC, electrical, mechanical, and facility control systems critical to fab operations
Final pathway placement may depend on operational demand, apprentice performance, and shown interest.
Key Responsibilities
- Adhere to all registered apprenticeship guidelines, program requirements, and instructions from the program lead
- Complete required safety training and perform all work in strict accordance with safety policies
- Demonstrate strong safety culture through audits, hazard identification, and "good catch" reporting
- Partner with Production, Shift Technicians, Engineers, and Facilities teams to support daily priorities
- Monitor system or tool performance and respond appropriately to alarms, faults, or abnormal conditions
- Assist with scheduled preventative maintenance on assigned equipment or systems
- Identify and fix basic to intermediate mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, or software-related issues
- Accurately document work performed, tool or system status, and maintenance actions
- Follow established procedures while developing the capacity to operate with growing independence
- Contribute to continuous improvement, reliability, and problem-solving initiatives
- Work in cleanroom, industrial, and electro-static discharge (ESD) sensitive environments
- Use computers and user documentation tools to support maintenance and reporting activities
Depending on assignment, apprentices may be exposed to:
Fab Equipment Examples:
Diffusion / Implant, PCVD, Wet Chemical Processing, Dry Etch / Plasma, CMP, Photolithography, Fab Support tools
Facilities Systems Examples:
HVAC systems, facility instrumentation and controls, electrical and mechanical infrastructure, pneumatic systems, building automation systems, monitoring and alarm interfaces
Preferred Qualifications
- Coursework or hands-on exposure to electronics, electricity, HVAC, instrumentation, mechatronics, or industrial systems
- Basic understanding of AC/DC electrical fundamentals
- Exposure to manufacturing, maintenance, military technical training, or lab environments
- Familiarity with reading schematics, drawings, or technical manuals
- Interest in semiconductor manufacturing or critical infrastructure systems
