We are looking for a Regional Director in the Pacific to lead and effectively manage BirdLife International’s Pacific Partnership in Fiji.

In this role, you will be ensuring the provision of effective support to the network of BirdLife partner organisations in the Pacific region. This will include the delivery of planned conservation work, facilitating fundraising, promoting joint initiatives and representing BirdLife in the region. It also provides the opportunity to work closely with the Regional Director for Asia, to identify and facilitate bi-regional Asia-Pacific funding and conservation opportunities.

How you will do this:

Strategic Planning, Organisational Management and Governance

• Provide strategic leadership for the Pacific programme, ensuring alignment with organisational strategy and regional priorities.

• Lead and strengthen the Pacific Partnership, fostering collaboration, shared planning and effective governance across Partners, the Pacific Executive Committee and the Global Leadership Team.

• Lead and develop the Pacific Global Team, overseeing workforce planning, performance, budgeting, legal, financial, administrative and HR functions.

• Ensure effective organisational governance, compliance and risk management, exercising delegated legal authority as required.

• Identify and advance strategic partnerships and Asia-Pacific funding opportunities to support organisational objectives.

Conservation

• Lead the delivery of the Pacific conservation strategy, ensuring programmes are prioritised, effectively implemented and aligned with regional and global objectives.

• Coordinate regional support for conservation initiatives, campaigns and events, promoting Partner leadership, collaboration and accountability.

Network & Capacity Development

• Strengthen the Pacific Partnership by leading network development, organisational capacity building and the sharing of best practice.

• Oversee regional partnership meetings and maintain strong relationships with the Pacific Executive Committee to support strategic oversight and effective programme delivery.

Policy & Advocacy

• Represent the Partnership with governments, regional institutions, donors and other key stakeholders, building strategic relationships to influence policy and advance conservation priorities.

Fundraising and Communications

• Lead regional fundraising and donor engagement, ensuring sustainable funding, strong donor stewardship and effective communications to maximise programme impact.

This role with require regular travel within the Pacific region.

What we are looking for:

To be successful in this role, you'll need significant senior leadership experience, with a proven ability to lead high-performing teams, build strategic partnerships, and influence diverse stakeholders across cultures. You'll bring substantial experience in programme leadership, partnership development and fundraising within the conservation or international development sector, together with a strong understanding of biodiversity conservation and sustainable development in the Pacific region. A postgraduate qualification (or equivalent experience), ideally in conservation, environmental science, fundraising or a related field, is desirable. You'll also be an outstanding communicator, able to translate complex technical information into compelling messages for a range of audiences, while demonstrating sound financial, organisational and strategic thinking skills and the ability to deliver results in a complex international environment.
