PURPOSE
According to prescribed policies and procedures of the organization including all applicable state, federal and accreditation regulations and reporting to the Vice President, the incumbent will be responsible for advancing person-centered engagement, therapeutic recreation, and holistic wellness programming across the assigned regional portfolio.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Lead Community Life, Wellness & Memory Care Strategy
- Provides strategic leadership for community life, engagement, wellness, and memory care across a regional portfolio
- Ensures programs reflect a person-centered, holistic wellness approach that supports residents’ cognitive health, physical well-being, emotional resilience, social connections, community involvement and spiritual enrichment
- Integrates engagement and wellness into the overall resident experience, aligning with organizational mission and operational priorities
- Creates opportunities for and sources volunteers to support department strategy
Drive Program Excellence & Consistency
- Establishes standards and ensures consistent execution of high-quality engagement and wellness programming across communities
- Monitors program effectiveness and resident outcomes, using data and feedback to drive continuous improvement
- Promotes innovative, evidence-informed practices that enhance resident engagement and quality of life
Lead, Develop & Support Teams
- Provides direction, guidance, and development to Community Life, Wellness, and Memory Care leaders and teams
- Supports facility leadership with talent strategies including hiring, onboarding, training, and retention
- Fosters a culture of accountability, collaboration, and service excellence across communities
Ensure Quality, Compliance & Operational Alignment
- Ensures compliance with regulatory standards and organizational expectations related to life enrichment and programming
- Manages Resident engagement platforms, establishes standards and develops processes for execution, data analysis and reporting
- Supports quality assurance, survey readiness, and performance improvement efforts
- Partners with operations leadership to align programming with business objectives and resident care goals
EXPECTATIONS
- Demonstrates and maintains a positive, professional manner, manages time efficiently and effectively, provides leadership as a role model to promote a team approach, collaborates and participates in policy creation and appropriate problem-solving methods.
- Must adhere to all policies, procedures, terms and conditions set forth in the National Church Residences’ Employee Information Guide (EIG), the Code of Conduct, as well as any facility handbook, including but not limited to, corporate compliance, drug free workplace, safe work practices, all federal, state, local regulations and laws.
- With respect to Resident Rights, ensure all care is provided with respect and dignity for the residents/clients, their families and the staff. Reports all complaints made by residents/clients and/or families to the appropriate supervisors, reports all allegations of abuse, misappropriation of funds/resident property and/or any other corporate compliance, drug free workplace, safe work practices, all federal, state and local regulations and laws.
- Completes all annual education requirements timely, including but not limited to Compliance, Privacy, Security and HIPAA training and exhibits behavior as set forth by the Code of Conduct in the performance of their duties.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Education: Bachelor’s degree in Therapeutic Recreation, Recreation Therapy, Gerontology, or related field
Experience: 2 plus years of experience in senior living, senior services or serving special needs populations with experience supporting memory care and/or dementia focused programming
Mental: Must have excellent communication, comprehension, and interpersonal skills. Must have the ability to speak, read, write and understand English, as well as the ability to make self-understood.
Skills: Must have good computer skills with basic professional computer software (Microsoft Office suite, Windows, etc.) and the capacity for learning new software systems quickly. Must be self-directed with excellent organizational skills and the ability to manage tasks and assignments concurrently. Must be able to successfully lead others in an environment of complexity.
Must have strong motivational skills and a high emotional intelligence quotient (EQ)
Travel: Frequent more than 50%
Licensure: Current Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist (CTRS) required

- 2+ years experience in senior living, senior services, or serving special needs populations with memory care/dementia programming
- Current Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist (CTRS) license
- Strong computer skills with Microsoft Office suite and ability to learn new software systems quickly
- Experience managing resident engagement platforms, data analysis and reporting
- Excellent communication, comprehension, interpersonal skills and English proficiency (speak/read/write)
- Demonstrated leadership, talent development, hiring, onboarding, training and retention experience
- High emotional intelligence (EQ) and strong motivational skills
- Knowledge of regulatory compliance, HIPAA, and survey readiness processes
- Ability and willingness to travel frequently (more than 50%)
