Job Description Summary

Professional and specialist workplace design management and governance for the Client’s Retail and Commercial portfolio. design steerage, presentations, vision; maintains and drives design standards from Group aspirations towards Country delivery. Focus is on systematic and consistent delivery of Retail and Commercial design in the region. Interface with Group/Regional Workplace and local project teams and centralized specialists/consultants to deliver compliant Retail and Commercial design, customer experience and necessary design for the Bank’s portfolio.

Job Description

Major Tasks & Responsibilities 

 

Primary Responsibilities 

· Lead consistent innovative design delivery and govern Standard Chartered Bank’s (SC) standards, with responsibilities for oversight, vetting, approval, and intervention across SCB’s Commercial and Retail design portfolio. 

· Reinforce Global Workplace and Group Design Team visions to continually support to evolve design standards as required through on-going projects, initiatives and business strategy. 

· Interface with Group Design Management and manage business expectations prior to project approval, ensuring alignment with business strategies and property agenda. 

· Drive and steer future focused and affordable project design solutions, standards and applications. 

· Ensure projects have clear communications across briefing process, master planning and design approach for partner consultants and vendors. 

· Work alongside Workplace Effectiveness, Experience, Strategy and Project Management streams under Workplace to ensure regular project vetting, recommendations, solutions and escalations. 

 

 

Workplace Design Strategy 

· Support the design strategy direction in alignment with Workplace Strategy, client brief and design team. 

· Advise on space requirements in alignment to CRES Strategy and client brief, compliant with standards, in consideration of Design and Workplace Experience as part of the Workplace Standards. 

· Advise as to any architectural features of the short-listed buildings that could affect the implementation of the Bank’s space requirements. 

 

Concept Design for Project Implementation 

· Ensure all Project Proposals satisfy SC Standards, Local Code, SC CRES Strategies and client requirements before submitting for approval. Attend necessary Bodies to support and if necessary present proposals for approval. 

· Project Concept Design – in line with brief, prepare compliant zonal layout options for discussion with country teams and Group Distribution Design Council (GDDC)/ Workplace Solution Council (WSC) leading to final scheme design. 

 

Design Management  

· Project Design assurance to align with SC’s Design Guidelines and client expectations. 

· Project Design Variations – Log, review and make recommendations with regards to individual project requests, where adopted; communicate routinely to share application knowledge. 

· Interface with Design Hub to solution feasibility studies, guiding the space planning production as needed. 

· Standards Specials and Component Variations – as business needs evolve, provide continuous review of standards programme (both fit-to-purpose and applicable to diverse geographic need) 

· Support and update workplace design regional office and retail tracker. 

· Attend GDDC (Retail Projects) and WSC (Commercial Projects) – present and supporting information/ comments. 

 

Other Responsibilities:  

· Work within the SC CRES standards, process, and governance on Retail and Commercial Design 

· Disseminating, implementing and upholding the client standards, processes and procedures relevant to project planning. 

· Supporting the weekly Global Design Management calls to manage project escalation issues and initiatives, presenting as requested. 

· Supporting communications and report and tracking structure as required, including but not limited to exemption register and escalation tracker. 

· Developing Value Engineering programs and initiatives for Project and Design team review as required. 

· Regional Design Manager to cover the Greater China & North Asia region for the above-mentioned activities. Limited Travel is required.

· Able to communicate confidently with stakeholders at all levels, including senior management, client, staff, and suppliers, etc. 

· Able to track status of each project remotely, ensuring project information are always up to date. 

· Always demand continuous improvement on efficiency and effectiveness. 

 

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/EXPERIENCE 

· Diploma / University Degree in Architecture / Interior Design, or equivalent. 

· At least 10 years relevant experience in fitting out / project design and site management. 

· AutoCAD, MS Office, 3D rendering tools, Photoshop, In-Design etc assuring good computer graphic presentation skills. 

· Professional experience in Retail / Commercial design is essential, with multinational corporate exposure and Design Management/Governance an advantage. 

· Solid technical background and understanding of Interior Design and the built environment. 

· Remote management of teams and process. 

· Strong interpersonal skills and communication skills for team and client management. 

· Highly organised, excellent communication and time management skills. 

· Fluency in written and spoken English and Chinese (Mandarin) is required and second Asian language considered an advantage.
