The role of Region Technical Manager oversees all process quality control and technical aspects of five wood products manufacturing facilities in the Western Oregon Region. Establishes procedures for maintaining high standards of quality at multiple manufacturing sites and utilizes data analytics to monitor and optimize production processes. This position requires medium-to-high travel with approximately 25% travel time.
Essential Job Duties & Responsibilities:
- Manages all aspects of the quality control department including developing operating budget, monitoring performance, and scheduling of the QC team.
- Oversees all technical aspects of engineered wood products and plywood manufacturing facility which include laminated veneer lumber, prefabricated I-joist, plywood, PLV and the production of veneer.
- Assure compliance to established quality control manual and all applicable standards.
- Assure compliance to all safety regulations as set forth by the corporate and regional safety managers.
- Works in coordination with the Division Engineering Department and Research and Development lab which support the technical aspects of the position
- Coordinates all plant raw material qualifications as outlined in the quality control manual. Works closely with all raw material vendors and their associated technical groups.
- Responsible for timely and accurate data collection and reporting. This includes analyzing and applying appropriate statistical control methodologies.
- Participates in the region improvement (BIC) process working with operations and maintenance personnel.
- Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Education/Experience:
College degree in engineering, wood science, business, or manufacturing is preferred. Equivalent experience will be considered in lieu of a degree.
Seven (7) years of experience in related job function including: strong organizational, interpersonal, and decision-making skills. Ability to comprehend mechanical, electrical, and instrumentation systems with operations. Knowledge and understanding of industrial costs and their control. Strategic long term and tactical implementation strategy skills.
Six Sigma Certification or Statistical Process Control understanding a plus.
