Full Time Monday - Friday
The Referral Coordinator works with the patient and outside services to schedule specialty services under the order of the physician. The referral service provides appointments, patient contact by telephone and mail to verify date, time, location and any special instructions. The checkout service includes scheduling any appointments for follow-up care, including laboratory tests, follow up visits for laboratory results, next visit appointment and provide verbal and written appointment date and time and any special instructions.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities:
The following is a summary of the major functions of this position. He or she may perform other duties, both major and minor, which may not be mentioned below, and specific functions may change from time to time.
- Coordinates referral requests as ordered by the physician for diagnostic testing and specialty office appointments from multiple locations
- Obtains and accurately enters patients’ demographic and insurance information
- Verifies patients’ insurance
- Obtains preauthorization and notification information from payer sources and notes accordingly
- Communicates procedure and appointment information to patient and requesting location
- Documents information for all procedures and appointments in the patient’s chart and HPP
- Reviews office and clinic charges for accuracy (i.e. CPT codes, modifiers and diagnosis)
Minium Experience
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- Clerical and computer experience preferred
