Receiving Supervisor – Manatee Distribution Center

ABOUT THE POSITION…

We’re looking for a highly organized, detail-oriented leader to take ownership of the receiving operation at Power Design’s Distribution Center. As the Receiving Supervisor, you’ll lead the team responsible for receiving and unloading all inbound material, verifying shipments, maintaining accurate system and paperwork records, resolving receiving discrepancies, and ensuring material moves through the receiving process accurately and efficiently.

Success in this role requires strict adherence to established SOPs, exceptional organization, strong attention to detail, and persistent follow-through. You’ll be responsible for maintaining an exceptionally organized receiving dock, paperwork and documentation process, and receiving research area so that every shipment, discrepancy, and open issue can be easily identified, tracked, and resolved.

Our construction jobsites across the country depend on the distribution center to provide the materials they need to meet project schedules and budgets. Accurate receiving is the foundation of that process, making this role critical to our operation and customer experience. Sound like an opportunity you’d be interested in? Apply to Power Design today!

POSITION DETAILS/RESPONSIBILITIES…

  • Own the receiving process from start to finish, ensuring all established receiving SOPs are followed consistently by every member of the team without exception.
  • Maintain a safe working environment by ensuring teammates wear required safety gear, follow established safety procedures, and immediately address unsafe conditions or behaviors.
  • Hold yourself and the receiving team accountable for processing inbound material accurately, completely, and within established turnaround expectations.
  • Maintain an exceptionally clean, organized, and controlled receiving dock, ensuring material is clearly identified and appropriately staged throughout every step of the receiving process.
  • Maintain an extremely organized paperwork and receiving research area, with clear separation and identification of open discrepancies, damaged shipments, research items, pending documentation, and completed transactions.
  • Ensure every inbound shipment follows the required process for unloading, opening, counting, verification, labeling, documentation, system receipt, and put-away.
  • Ensure all boxes, crates, pallets, and other shipping containers are properly opened and inspected as required by SOP before packaging or shipping materials are discarded.
  • Direct teammates to accurately count and verify inbound material against packing slips, purchase orders, and other applicable documentation.
  • Ensure physical quantities, part numbers, purchase orders, packing slips, and system transactions agree before receiving is completed.
  • Ensure all receiving paperwork is complete, accurate, organized, and retained in accordance with established procedures.
  • Personally monitor the receiving dock throughout the day to verify work is progressing appropriately and SOPs are being followed—not relying solely on system status or employee reporting.
  • Identify receiving discrepancies immediately and ensure they are clearly documented, physically segregated when appropriate, and entered into the established research process.
  • Promptly research and follow up on all receiving discrepancies, including shortages, overages, incorrect material, damaged material, missing documentation, PO issues, and system discrepancies.
  • Maintain clear ownership and tracking of every open receiving discrepancy and follow up persistently until each issue is accurately and fully resolved.
  • Prevent unresolved material or paperwork from accumulating by routinely reviewing all open research items and escalating aging issues when additional support is required.
  • Communicate promptly with Purchasing, project teams, vendors, Inventory Control, Accounting, and other stakeholders as needed to resolve receiving issues.
  • Respond to emails, messages, and requests quickly and maintain consistent follow-up until outstanding receiving issues are closed.
  • Maintain accurate and current data in the warehouse management system and immediately investigate and correct discrepancies.
  • Ensure trucks are unloaded efficiently while maintaining receiving accuracy and SOP compliance, including coordinating temporary labor when additional support is required.
  • Coordinate with Quality Control to facilitate inbound inspections, sampling, specification testing, and disposition of material requiring additional review.
  • Oversee the put-away process to ensure received material is accurately labeled, systematically processed, and moved to the appropriate warehouse location.
  • Maintain inventory of receiving supplies and proactively replenish materials to prevent operational interruptions.
  • Ensure receiving equipment is properly maintained, inspected, and calibrated according to established schedules.
  • Train receiving teammates thoroughly on SOPs, system processes, documentation requirements, equipment operation, and receiving quality standards.
  • Verify training through observation and follow-up rather than assuming procedures are being followed once training is completed.
  • Take immediate corrective action when established procedures or performance expectations are not being met and recognize teammates who consistently demonstrate exceptional performance.
  • Train and oversee teammates operating material-handling equipment, including stand-up forklifts, picker lifts, reach trucks, and ride-on pallet jacks.
  • Continuously identify opportunities to improve receiving accuracy, organization, efficiency, accountability, and customer service.
  • Take pride in maintaining an exceptionally organized, disciplined, and audit-ready receiving operation at all times.

YOU WILL ALSO NEED TO BE ABLE TO…

  • Lift up to 49 pounds.
  • Push utility carts up to 60 pounds.
  • Stand, walk, push, pull, squat, bend, and reach during shifts.
  • Use carts, dollies, hand trucks, and other equipment to move material.
  • Go up and down stairs where applicable.
  • Work at heights of up to 40 feet and/or on a mezzanine where applicable.
  • Adhere to strict safety, quality, receiving, documentation, and fulfillment standards.

HERE’S WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR…

  • At least 3–5 years of experience leading a warehouse receiving department or similar high-volume receiving operation.
  • High school diploma, GED, or equivalent required.

  • Strong attention to detail and an uncompromising commitment to following established SOPs and ensuring others do the same.
  • Demonstrated ability to research discrepancies, determine root causes, and drive issues through final resolution.
  • Strong sense of urgency and the ability to distinguish between moving quickly and taking shortcuts.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to read and accurately interpret long and complex part numbers, purchase orders, packing slips, and other receiving documentation.
  • Strong math skills, including counting, addition, subtraction, and multiplication.
  • Ability to manage multiple open issues simultaneously without allowing follow-ups or details to fall through the cracks.
  • Strong leadership and accountability skills with a willingness to address performance or process failures immediately.
  • Friendly and helpful attitude with a strong internal customer-service mindset.
  • Willingness to stay as long as necessary from time to time when inbound volume or operational needs require additional support.
  • Reliable transportation and a demonstrated commitment to punctuality and dependability.
  • Demonstrate and uphold all Power Design core values, including integrity, accountability, teamwork, innovation, and growth.
