Purpose:

The successful candidate will join our Curriculum Project Team in the Center for Reading Science. Reading Opens Worlds (ROW) is a Prek-2nd grade integrated literacy, science, and social studies curriculum. This is a grant-supported, full-time (12-month), non-tenure-track position, with funding secured through June 2028. There is a possibility of continued funding after June 2028.

Duties:

The School of Education at Mount St. Joseph University invites applications for this 12-month position as a Multilingual Learner Specialist on the ROW curriculum project. This individual would collaborate with the curriculum writers to create and/or edit instructional materials to ensure they are accessible, culturally responsive, and effective for multilingual learners. This role provides expertise in language acquisition, translanguaging, scaffolding strategies, and inclusive instructional practices to support students' development of both academic content knowledge and English proficiency. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in the science of reading and extensive experience teaching reading and writing to Spanish speakers. The candidate should be fluent in speaking, reading, and writing Spanish.

A doctoral degree is preferred, though candidates with a master’s degree in reading or a related field and significant experience are encouraged to apply.

Mount St. Joseph University’s Reading Science Program is an IDA Accredited Plus program with pathways to all levels of certification through the International Dyslexia Association.

  • A master’s degree in reading or a related field is required; a doctoral degree is preferred (ABD candidates are welcome to apply)
  • Extensive teaching experience in PreK–5 reading instruction
  • Proven ability to prepare educators in evidence-based reading practices
  • Experience working with diverse students, families, and school communities
  • Experience writing instructional materials
  • Fluent in speaking, reading, and writing Spanish

Expectations:

The candidate will be expected to serve on the curriculum project team in our Center for Reading Science. Additional responsibilities may include:

  *   Providing service to the graduate program, department, university, and the professional community

   * Other duties as assigned
