General Description:
In this role, you will be joining the Materials and Microsystems Laboratory. Our mission is to push the frontiers of devices and materials with applications such as microelectronics, MEMS, aerospace, and automotive thermal management. This position is for design, fabrication, and testing of thermal management components and systems. Opportunities abound for a self-driven and creative engineer or scientist to grow within our group.
Essential Duties:
Innovate new approaches, processes, and designs to address challenges in thermal management and push well beyond the limits of current technology.
Lead the development of novel thermal management components.
Be a thermal management focal on teams developing microelectronic, aerospace, and/or automotive systems, payloads, and/or platforms.
Work closely with internal colleagues and external team members to reach program goals.
Plan, coordinate, and execute the design and fabrication of thermal management systems and microsystems.
Plan, coordinate, and execute thermal management test campaigns.
Communicate with other team members, management, and project sponsors via oral presentations, written reports, and journal publications.
Document inventions and support the patent process.
Attend and present at conferences.
Write research proposals.
Work effectively on a team as well as independently.
Detailed knowledge of heat transfer.
Experimental laboratory experience planning, conducting, and analyzing heat transfer experiments.
Experience in scientific communication through technical presentations and journal publications.
Experience with microfabrication in a clean room environment (e.g. advanced packaging, MEMS, microelectronics, microfluidics) id highly desired.
Experience with additive manufacturing / 3D-printing (design, process, and/or materials)
Experience with Finite Element Analysis and Computational Fluid Dynamics for thermal, thermal-fluid, and thermo-structural modeling.
CAD Experience (e.g. Solidworks or Inventor)
Experience with Matlab or Python
Ability to work independently
Required Education:
Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Physics, or related discipline.
Postdoc or 1-4 years industry or national lab experience a plus.
Candidates with additional experience may be considered for a more senior position.
Physical Requirements:
Must be able to work for extended periods while standing or sitting at a computer workstation.
Must be familiar with safe chemical handling practices and common laboratory safety procedures.
Must be sufficiently mobile to work within a laboratory environment.
Special Requirements:
U.S. citizenship or permanent resident status required.
Ability to obtain and maintain a US Government security clearance is a plus.
Compensation:
The base salary range for this full-time position is $132,765 - $165,983 + bonus + benefits.
