A Day in the Life

The Structural Heart and Aortic Integrated operating unit offer minimally invasive approaches to restore proper structure and function of the heart and the aorta. We are focused on the transcatheter replacement or repair of the four heart valves – aortic, pulmonic, mitral, tricuspid – and the placement of stent grafts to treat aneurysms and dissections of the body’s largest artery, the aorta.

As an R&D Engineer, you will be tasked with supporting a team in the technical development of new products through early-stage investigation/research and/or translation of that into commercial medical devices.

  • Contribute to developing products for use in medical procedures as defined by the business needs of the company
  • Responsible for establishing the most effective, reliable and cost-effective processing methods for manufacturing operations
  • Provide technical support to product and process development and on field related activities such as clinical programs and complaint investigations.
  • Working with multidiscipline teams in planning and implementing the introduction of new products, in line with marketing plans while undertaking specific projects as designated in support of these business activities
  • Support the introduction and implementation of product/process/material changes to the manufacturing operations
  • Participate in sourcing, testing and approving materials
  • Effectively represent Medtronic externally with our customers
  • Document design/development/test activities as required in engineering laboratory notebooks
  • Design, develop, analyse, troubleshoot and provide technical skills during research and product development
  • Design studies to investigate specific life science questions within your field of expertise
  • Involved in product research and development and clinical trials
  • Translate research discoveries into usable and marketable products

Key Skills & Experience  

  • Level 8 Degree in a relevant Engineering discipline (Mechanical, Biomedical, Electronic, Software)
  • Co-op or internship experience within Structural Heart would be advantageous
  • Experience in biomedical materials, processing knowledge and medical device design procedures
  • Dynamic team player who can work effectively and proactively on cross-functional teams
  • Strong interpersonal and team management skills
  • Excellent problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to manage workload effectively and efficiently.
