Essential Functions:
• Develops and executes the Company’s strategy for securitized products and interest rate sensitive investments based on the overall strategic direction for the investment function.
• Conducts thorough sector and issuer due diligence, tracking trends, performance, and macroeconomic drivers to formulate investment recommendations for sectors and individual securities within the securitized products and interest rate sensitive sectors best suited for each company's portfolio needs.
• Actively monitors market themes and sector trends to identify investment opportunities.
• Develops models to enhance investment analysis and forecast performance for securitized products and interest rate sensitive sectors.
• Analyzes and determines strategy for short-term investments, including development and implementation of operational procedures for management of short-term assets.
• Establishes, implements and maintains uniform underwriting and analysis processes for securities included in mortgage-backed securities, commercial mortgage-backed securities, commercial mortgage loans, asset-backed securities, treasury and agency debt securities sectors.
• Oversees the analysis of owned securities and evaluation of new opportunities within these sectors including buy and/or sell recommendations and effectively communicate them to the investment team, including through written credit opinions.
• Conducts surveillance and monitoring to identify risks to holdings while also enhancing surveillance tools and processes.
• Builds and maintains relationships with both internal and external participants, including portfolio managers, company management, issuers, and broker-dealers.
• Trains and mentors analysts in security analysis and portfolio support, which includes daily investment duties, back office operations, compliance monitoring and statutory deposit maintenance.
• Leads the investment oversight of externally managed assets, including evaluating new and monitoring existing investments, in real estate, commercial mortgages, and other investments.
• Provides analytical support for portfolio management and input into the development of investment strategies, including decisions on asset allocation, performance measurement, policy compliance, tax policy, credit quality and risk tolerance.
• Evaluates and reports upon the impact of investment related statutory, industry and regulatory changes.
• Provides oversight of EMC’s investment compliance function to ensure financial stability of the enterprise.
• Monitors compliance with internal and external investment regulations, working closely with investment accounting, internal and external auditors and provides accurate and timely reporting.
• Prepares and communicates investment related information including reports utilized in daily portfolio management and risk control for various stakeholders, including senior management, Board of Directors, regulators and auditors.
• Acts as a liaison with Accounting, Internal Audit and Legal Departments receiving and providing guidance.
Educations & Experience:
• Bachelor’s degree in finance or related field
• Advanced degree in a related field preferred
• Ten years of experience in investment analysis and/or portfolio management, primarily in the insurance industry related to the rates sectors of fixed income or related experience
• Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) designation preferred
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
• Advanced understanding of investment analysis, insurance investment issues, asset allocation, performance measurement, cash management, corporate finance and portfolio and financial theory
• Basic understanding of financial accounting, derivatives markets and computer skills
• Experience using Bloomberg and spreadsheet applications including Excel
• Excellent knowledge of investment operations, trade settlement, insurance products, cash flow testing and asset/liability matching
• Ability to explore new and different processes, services, technologies, and partnerships to enhance EMC’s business
• Strong communication, problem-solving and analytical skills
• Sound business judgment and strong leadership skills
• Exceptional knowledge of strategic planning and company products and services
• Excellent ability to advise, partner, influence and effectively consult with diverse internal and external stakeholders, including senior leaders, executives, and project owners
Per the Colorado Equal Pay for Equal Work Act, the hiring range for this position for Colorado-based team members is $122,731.81 - $157,608.77. The hiring range for other locations may vary.
