Your Role and Responsibilities

In this role, we are looking for an R&D Software Engineer – Industrial Automation to join our Energy Industries Digital Organization. You will contribute to the design, development, testing, and deployment of enterprise-grade industrial automation software, supporting next-generation SCADA, HMI, communication, and digital engineering platforms.

Working as part of a collaborative Agile engineering team, you will develop scalable software solutions using C++, .NET/C#, ASP.NET Core, Angular/React, and modern cloud technologies while partnering with Product Management, Solution Architects, Test Engineering, and Domain Experts to deliver secure, reliable, and high-performance industrial software.

This role is contributing to the Energy Industries – Research & Development organization in Bangalore, India.

The work model for the role is: Hybrid

You will be mainly accountable for
  • Design, develop, test, and maintain enterprise-grade industrial automation applications using C++, .NET/C#, ASP.NET Core, Angular/React, and modern engineering practices, ensuring scalable, secure, and high-quality software delivery.
  • Develop and support SCADA, HMI, historian, and industrial communication solutions by integrating PLCs, RTUs, Flow Computers, and third-party systems using protocols such as OPC UA, Modbus, IEC 60870-5-104, and DNP3, while optimizing system performance and reliability.
  • Collaborate with Product Management, Architects, Test Engineering, and cross-functional teams to deliver software through Agile methodologies, implement CI/CD practices, leverage AI-assisted development tools, and support Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT), Site Acceptance Testing (SAT), and customer deployments.
  • Drive engineering excellence by adopting software development best practices, performing root cause analysis, improving cybersecurity, enhancing application performance, maintaining technical documentation, and contributing to continuous innovation and product improvements.
Qualifications for the Role
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology, or a related technical discipline.
  • 5–10 years of experience in industrial automation software development using C++, .NET/C#, ASP.NET Core, Web APIs, and modern enterprise application development practices.
  • Strong experience with Angular or React, SQL Server, PostgreSQL, NoSQL databases, object-oriented programming, and enterprise software architecture.
  • Knowledge of SCADA, HMI, historian systems, industrial communication protocols (OPC UA, Modbus, IEC 60870-5-104, DNP3), Windows Server environments, and Industrial Cybersecurity principles (IEC 62443) is preferred.
  • Exposure to Microsoft Azure or AWS, Docker, Kubernetes, CI/CD pipelines, DevOps practices, cloud-hosted industrial solutions, and AI-assisted software development tools is considered an advantage.
  • Understanding of process automation domains such as Oil & Gas, Chemicals, Pharmaceuticals, Power Generation, or Water industries, along with high-availability and disaster recovery architectures, is desirable.
  • Strong analytical, communication, collaboration, and problem-solving skills with the ability to work independently in Agile teams while continuously learning emerging technologies and engineering best practices.

Skills Required

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science or equivalent
  • 5 to 10 years hands-on experience in R&D or software development within industrial automation
  • Strong proficiency in C++
  • Strong proficiency in .NET Core and C#
  • Experience with ASP.NET Web APIs and Entity Framework
  • Experience with Angular, TypeScript, ReactJS, and modern web frameworks
  • Familiarity with SQL Server, PostgreSQL, and NoSQL databases
  • Understanding of relational database concepts
  • Experience with real-time databases and historian systems and troubleshooting database performance
  • Basic understanding of Azure/AWS, Docker, Kubernetes, and CI/CD concepts
  • Strong understanding of SCADA architecture, HMI, historian, alarms, events, and data acquisition
  • Strong object-oriented design and debugging skills
  • Experience developing enterprise software applications
  • Understanding of protocols including OPC DA/UA, Modbus TCP/IP, IEC 60870-5-104, DNP3, and TCP/IP networking fundamentals
  • Windows Server administration, ODBC/DSN configuration, application deployment and troubleshooting
  • Knowledge of industrial cybersecurity and IEC 62443 principles
  • Experience leveraging AI-assisted development tools, coding assistants, and agentic AI solutions
  • Exposure to modern DevOps practices, automated testing, and release management processes
  • Knowledge of process control concepts in industries (Oil & Gas, Chemicals, Pharmaceuticals)
  • Knowledge of cloud-hosted industrial solutions and digitalization platforms
  • Experience with redundant architectures, failover systems, and disaster recovery solutions
  • Highly organized, self-motivated, able to work independently
  • Excellent written and verbal English communication skills
