At Hitachi Energy, we are advancing a sustainable energy future by enabling stronger, smarter, and more resilient power systems. Quality is central to how we deliver trusted digital solutions for customers worldwide. We are looking for an experienced Senior Software Test Engineer to join our Grid Automation team and help shape the quality of mission-critical software used in modern energy systems.
In this senior role, you will take ownership of complex testing activities, influence quality strategy, and collaborate with global engineering teams working on advanced Grid Automation technologies. You will contribute to scalable test practices, automation maturity, CI/CD readiness, and continuous improvement while growing your expertise in a global organization committed to innovation, sustainability, and technical excellence.
How you’ll make an impact
- Lead the definition of test objectives, test strategy, test scenarios, and execution plans for complex product and release activities.
- Identify required test environments, equipment, test data, tools, and other provisions needed for effective testing. Partner with functional leaders to ensure readiness for test start and completion in line with program schedules, including maintenance and minor releases. Report test progress, quality risks, and release readiness to the Test Manager and key stakeholders, escalating proactively when progress toward a stable, releasable product is at risk. Support and strengthen CI/CD practices across products, with a focus on expanding automation of key tests.
- Ensure defects are documented clearly, accurately, and with the technical detail needed to support efficient investigation and resolution.
- Work closely with developers, product owners, and engineering stakeholders to analyze, resolve, and verify product issues across the software lifecycle.
- Continuously strengthen testing expertise, automation skills, and domain knowledge in Grid Automation and power system software.
- Act as a senior contributor in a cross-functional team by sharing knowledge, supporting collaboration, and helping the team deliver high-quality outcomes aligned with shared objectives.
Your background
- At least 8 years of professional experience in quality assurance, software testing, or test engineering, preferably in complex software product environments.
- Strong knowledge of QA best practices, testing methodologies, quality processes, and risk-based testing approaches.
- Hands-on experience with low-level testing, including API and integration testing, in microservices-based architectures.
- Good understanding of microservices architecture and related testing areas, including message queues, Kubernetes, Docker, and distributed system behavior.
- A collaborative mindset, strong communication skills, and the ability to influence quality discussions across technical and cross-functional teams.
- Fluency in written and spoken English.
- Knowledge of Python, Robot Framework, Azure DevOps, and PostgreSQL is a strong advantage.
- Experience with Jira, Helm, test automation frameworks, or CI/CD pipelines is considered an advantage.
