About The Team

Noah Medical is seeking an experienced and visionary Director or Senior Director of Product Engineering to lead the global Product Engineering organization across both Capital Systems and Instruments & Accessories (Consumables). This leader will drive the long-term reliability, manufacturability, and serviceability of Noah Medical’s robotic platforms and disposable devices, embedding engineering, and operational excellence throughout the product lifecycle.

The ideal candidate brings deep technical expertise, strong organizational design capabilities, and proven success managing multi-site teams across the U.S. and Asia. This role is critical to scaling Noah Medical’s product portfolio globally and will require up to 50% international travel between our San Francisco Bay Area headquarters and our emerging technology hub in China.

A Day In The Life Of Our Director/ Sr. Director of Product Engineering

Strategic and Organizational Leadership

  • Define and execute the vision for Product Engineering across Capital and Consumables, evolving the function from reactive support to a proactive, data-driven organization focused on reliability, quality, and cost improvements.
  • Build and lead a high-performing, multidisciplinary engineering organization spanning mechanical, electrical, software, reliability, and manufacturing engineering functions in both the U.S. and China.
  • Develop and execute a global organizational growth plan, including talent strategy, operating model, communication cadence, and cross-site collaboration frameworks.
  • Establish and continuously improve engineering processes, metrics, and governance for sustaining engineering, design transfer, field issue triage, and change management.
  • Act as a senior member of the R&D leadership team, contributing to long-term product architecture, platform strategy, and operational scalability.

Product Lifecycle Ownership

  • Own the post-launch product lifecycle from sustaining engineering through end-of-life, including field escalations, redesign initiatives, reliability improvements, and cost optimization.
  • Partner with Manufacturing, Quality, Field Service, and Supply Chain to identify and resolve issues impacting product reliability, manufacturability, and serviceability.
  • Drive proactive improvement roadmaps and resource allocation plans, presenting time-phased proposals and ROI analyses to the executive team.
  • Ensure efficient and compliant execution of design changes and field corrective actions in accordance with design controls, risk management, and quality system regulations (21 CFR 820, ISO 13485, IEC 60601).

Cross-Functional and Global Collaboration

  • Serve as the technical and organizational bridge between R&D, Operations, Quality, and Service teams to accelerate resolution of systemic product issues.
  • Lead executive-level updates and communications on product performance, risks, and mitigation strategies.
  • Foster strong alignment across sites and cultures through transparent communication, shared goals, and effective remote collaboration practices.
  • Build and maintain relationships with contract manufacturers, suppliers, and external engineering partners in both regions.

Continuous Improvement and Systems Development

  • Institutionalize root cause analysis, failure analysis, and closed-loop corrective action systems across products and sites.
  • Drive adoption of Design for Manufacturability (DFM), Design for Reliability (DFR), and Design for Service (DFS) principles across both new and sustaining products.
  • Leverage lessons learned and field data to inform new product designs and strengthen system architecture for long-term scalability.
  • Develop and standardize KPIs for reliability, serviceability, redesign cycle time, and product uptime.

About You

Required

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Systems, or Biomedical Engineering; Master’s degree preferred.
  • 15+ years of experience in medical device or similarly regulated hardware product development and sustaining engineering, with 5+ years leading multi-site teams.
  • Proven success managing sustaining and reliability engineering for complex electromechanical systems and disposable devices.
  • Deep understanding of design controls, change management, risk management (ISO 14971), and post-market surveillance in a regulated environment.
  • Strong organizational development experience - capable of building new teams, defining processes, and scaling operations internationally.
  • Fluency in English and Mandarin, with demonstrated success managing and mentoring teams across both Western and Chinese cultural environments.
  • Willingness and ability to travel internationally up to 50%.

Preferred

  • Experience leading engineering organizations in high-mix, low-volume manufacturing environments.
  • Familiarity with contract manufacturer management and supplier quality systems in China or Southeast Asia.
  • Demonstrated success in implementing proactive reliability and cost reduction programs.
  • Excellent communication, executive presentation, and cross-functional leadership skills.

Success in This Role

Success will be defined by the ability to:

  • Build a high-functioning, globally integrated Product Engineering organization that operates seamlessly across time zones and cultures.
  • Embed engineering excellence and data-driven decision-making into Noah Medical’s post-market and sustaining processes.
