At Belvedere, we cultivate the best of trading by creating cutting-edge technology and forging unique paths in culture.
The Role
Belvedere Trading is a leading proprietary trading firm. We are a team driven by intellectual curiosity, seeking answers that will change not only how we trade in this technological age, but also the future landscape of the trading industry.
Our traders provide liquidity to the market through their market-making activities and are the masters of a diverse set of commodities, interest rates, exchange-traded funds (ETF), and equity index options. Traders partner with our technologists to continually engineer and optimize our trading systems to stay on top of the industry.

Belvedere is searching for a Senior Quantitative Researcher to join our Trade Automation team. This team builds algorithmic solutions that enhance pricing, risk management, and execution efficiency across our trading desks. By automating responses to market conditions and optimizing positional risk, the team drives scalable, data-driven trading performance.

We are looking for highly skilled and experienced individuals, who are also passionate team members, to join this research initiative building models and trading strategies that upscale the future of our trading platform. The ideal candidate has direct experience in the quantitative research process, understands the workflow from idea generation to implementation, understands and can communicate the expected result in terms of trading behaviors. This position is accountable for making a significant impact on the direction and productivity of a high impact team with direct exposure to firm leadership.

What you'll do

  • Research, design, and enhance quantitative models that support options pricing, risk analytics, and P&L decomposition within automated trading systems.
  • Innovate on quantitative concepts and trading ideas that contribute to scalable, high-impact strategies across the firm’s technology trading platform.
  • Collaborate with developers and trading teams to translate research prototypes into robust, production-ready models and algorithms.
  • Conduct rigorous analysis of large, complex financial datasets to uncover insights, validate hypotheses, and refine model performance.
  • Partner with technology teams throughout the model development and deployment lifecycle to ensure alignment, quality, and system scalability.
  • Plan and execute rollout of new or updated models, coordinating with trading and tech stakeholders to ensure smooth integration and minimal disruption.
  • Monitor live model performance, usage, and business impact — proactively identifying issues, data drift, or deviations in expected trading behavior.
  • Own the long-term health of deployed models through calibration, retraining, and continuous optimization to sustain accuracy and profitability.
  • Define and track model performance metrics, communicating key findings and recommendations to traders, quants, and firm leadership.
  • Act as a senior contributor within the research team, mentoring peers, sharing best practices, and driving the evolution of the firm’s quantitative research framework.

What you'll need

  • Advanced degree (Master’s or PhD) in a quantitative field such as Mathematics, Statistics, Physics, Computer Science, Financial Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • 5+ years of hands-on experience in quantitative research, modeling, or strategy development within a trading or financial technology environment.
  • Strong proficiency in Python or C++ for model research, prototyping, and production implementation; experience with version control and collaborative development workflows.
  • Proven ability to design, implement, and maintain production-quality models, with accountability for ongoing performance and calibration.
  • Experience working with large datasets and building efficient data pipelines or analytical workflows.
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze model outputs and communicate results clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders. Strong collaboration skills with developers, traders, and other researchers in a fast-paced, iterative environment.
  • Intellectual curiosity, problem-solving ability, and a pragmatic approach to research that balances innovation with production impact.

What We Do

In March of 2002, Belvedere Trading emerged as Chicago’s newest market maker, soon to join the ranks of the Windy City’s elite proprietary trading firms. Armed with printouts of Excel workbooks and a team of eager minds, Belvedere established their place in the SPX pit on the floor of the Chicago Board Options Exchange. From the beginning, we have iteratively invested in our proprietary technology and made a commitment to building our software systems from the ground up. Due to our ultramodern proprietary technology and risk management capabilities, Belvedere is able to quickly capitalize on inefficiencies in the marketplace. Our trading models and software systems are continually re-engineered, optimized, and maintained to stay on top of the industry. Building and nurturing a strong culture is one of Belvedere’s highest priorities, and we are always looking for the best and brightest talent to help us in our continued success.

Why Work With Us

At Belvedere, our differences are what allow us to compete and succeed at the highest level. Our Culture Committee and Women’s Initiative elevate the voices of our teammates to further promote an inclusive workplace. It is our priority to foster a sense of community and belonging for each team member while supporting individual development.
