Department Description
Marex’s Algo and Flow department, formerly WEBB Traders, brings together expertise in proprietary trading, electronic market making, and quantitative research. The department provides liquidity across global cash equity and derivatives markets, using proprietary capital, advanced technology, and automated trading strategies.
This role sits within the WEBB team, whose roots date back to 2009. Based in Amsterdam, with a significant presence in Paris, the team combines its entrepreneurial approach and specialist trading expertise with Marex’s global reach, market access, and broader financial services capabilities.
Market makers, quantitative researchers, software engineers, and business professionals work closely together to develop trading strategies, improve technology, and solve complex market challenges. Joining the team offers the opportunity to take ownership, contribute directly to the business, and grow within the wider Marex Group.
Role Summary
We're looking for a Quantitative Researcher to join our Algo Derivatives Trading team and help us expand into systematic crypto options trading. The aim is to bring our existing derivatives expertise, models and trading infrastructure into the crypto space and build a new strategy from the ground up. You will combine research and trading in one role. That means owning ideas from first hypothesis through backtesting and deployment to live management: monitoring real-time P&L and risk, tracking execution quality, and deciding when to scale, adjust or retire a strategy. You'll work closely with traders and developers in a small, collaborative team where your research goes straight into production.
Responsibilities
- Contribute research into crypto options markets, including their volatility dynamics, term structure and skew, and how they differ from the traditional derivatives markets we trade today
- Build and maintain crypto volatility surface models
- Design and develop a systematic crypto options strategy from the ground up, from first hypothesis to a production-ready model
- Work with developers on market data pipelines and execution infrastructure for the new asset class, and deploy models to production
Competencies:
- Ownership and entrepreneurial drive: you should be comfortable building something new and not relying on existing know-how
- Scientific rigor: you're skeptical of your own results, especially with short data histories and changing regimes, and disciplined about overfitting and statistical significance
- Collaboration and communication: you work closely with other team members to share your findings but also learn from them
- Curiosity and adaptability: you are passionate about derivatives and crypto markets, and you're always thinking about the next edge
Skills and Experience:
- A master degree in a quantitative field such as mathematics, physics, statistics, computer science or financial engineering. A PhD is a plus
- A previous experience (long term internship or 1-2 year) in systematic trading, ideally in options
- A strong grasp of options theory: pricing models, greeks, implied volatility dynamics and volatility surface construction
- Solid statistics and analytical skills, supported by an experience with machine learning techniques
- Strong Python coding experience in a professional environment (git, Linux, package management, CI/CD)
- Strong interest in crypto derivatives markets. Experience in the area is a plus but not essential
