The Role
The Quality Engineering Intern is responsible for writing and executing manual tests, contributing to automated test suites, logging defects, and collaborating with developers during project refinements to ensure testability.
Summary Generated by Built In

Homey is a London based PropTech company on a mission to make property transactions faster and less painful. Our platform powers conveyancing for everyone involved: buyers, sellers, estate agents, mortgage brokers and conveyancing solicitors, with real time updates, vetted professionals, and tools that replace the spreadsheets, emails and phone calls that slow the process down today. We are also building a free AI CRM for estate agents to manage their leads and clients without paying for clunky software. We are a small, ambitious team based at 5 Merchant Square, Paddington, fixing one of the most stressful experiences in people's lives.

We're looking for a Quality Engineering Intern to join the Execution Pods. You will sit alongside developers and QA engineers, learn how production grade software is tested and shipped, and own real, scoped pieces of QA work from day one. This isn't a "watch and take notes" internship, you will write tests, log defects, run regression cycles and contribute to our automated test suites under the mentorship of senior engineers.

If you are curious, methodical, and energised by the idea of breaking things to make them better, we'd love to talk.

What you'll do

  • Write and execute manual test cases against acceptance criteria for new features.
  • Contribute to our automated regression suite (UI and API).
  • Investigate, reproduce and log defects with clear, reproducible steps.
  • Verify fixes and contribute to release sign off.
  • Pair with developers during refinement so testability is designed in early, not bolted on at the end.
  • Help maintain test data, environments and documentation.
  • Take part in retrospectives and contribute ideas for improving how we work.

Requirements

What we're looking for

  • A recent graduate or final year student in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field, or a self taught equivalent who can show their work.
  • Strong attention to detail and an instinct for "what could go wrong here?"
  • Comfortable with at least one programming language (JavaScript, TypeScript, Python or Ruby preferred).
  • Familiar with the basics of HTTP, APIs, and the browser developer tools.
  • Clear, kind written communication, you'll be writing tickets, test plans and notes that other people read.
  • Willingness to learn fast, ask questions early, and own your work.

Nice to have (not required)

  • Exposure to an automation framework (Cypress, Playwright, Selenium, RSpec, pytest, etc.).
  • Familiarity with Git and pull request workflows.
  • Some understanding of CI/CD pipelines.
  • Any practical project (university, hackathon or personal) where you tested or broke something interesting.
  • Interest in UK property, PropTech, or operations heavy software.

Benefits

What you'll learn

  • How a real product team plans, estimates and ships software using sprints, story points, and a clear Definition of Ready / Definition of Done.
  • How to design test strategies that balance coverage, speed and cost.
  • How modern automated testing fits into a CI/CD pipeline.
  • How to work with product, design, BAs and developers as one delivery team.
  • How to give and receive code and test reviews.

What we offer

  • A paid internship (rate to be confirmed at offer stage, in line with UK market for QA interns).
  • Real ownership from week one, your name on real tickets, real releases.
  • Mentorship from a senior QA engineer and the wider Execution Pods.
  • A collaborative on site working environment with a strong written first culture.
  • A clear path to a permanent Quality Engineer role for the right person.

Skills Required

  • Recent graduate or final year student in Computer Science or related field
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Comfortable with one programming language (JavaScript, TypeScript, Python or Ruby preferred)
  • Familiar with basics of HTTP, APIs, and browser developer tools
  • Clear written communication skills
  • Willingness to learn fast and own work
