Job Summary

Provide Quality Engineering line support for assembly production at Polaris’ facility. Assignments will involve both proactive and reactive solutions to address quality issues affecting the assigned processes. Will be responsible to manage the quality program of assigned processes and all related aspects.

Location: Huntsville, AL

Job Level: People Leader; Individual Contributor

Responsibilities
  • Front line liaison to production supervisor(s) and staff in executing troubleshooting, root cause analysis and implementing corrective action on quality issues affecting production.
  • Assists in the planning of quality control engineering assignments. Coordinates tasks for technicians, inspectors and associate-level engineers assigned to projects. Schedules work to meet completion dates and technical specifications.
  • Ensure quality standards are met by all outside vendors and internal departments.
  • Coordinate inspection of discrepant or suspect parts or material with supplier or third party when applicable.
  • Participate or Lead Failure Analysis and Root Cause and Corrective Requests Action Investigations.
  • Designs or specifies inspection and testing mechanisms and equipment. Establishes and documents critical features and supporting process control information.
  • Responsible for coordination of quality aspects for new product development including but not limited to on-site start-ups and tool and vendor certifications.
  • Develops and maintain inspection criteria for critical product features.
  • Generate special Quality Instructions and/or procedures as needed to contain quality issues or to assist with process validations.
  • Develop/Track internal metrics, identify opportunities for continuous improvement and lead improvement initiatives.
  • Operate within approved budget.
  • Works in safe and healthy manner, strictly following all safety rules and regulations

Experience & Skills

  • Five (5) or more years of experience in quality, process engineering or an equivalent field. Previous quality experience in automotive or similar assembly industry preferred.
  • One (1) or more years of leadership experience with hourly employees in an assembly industry environment.
  • Strong process improvement background, including PFMEA, control plans, RCCA (8D), CAR/CAPA, DOE, gage R&R, PPAP, engineering drawing, GD&T, product failure analysis and Quality Management Systems (QMS).
  • Strong problem-solving and communication skills.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, manufacturing environment. Must be a self-starter and able to work independently without supervision.
  • Demonstrated Black Belt knowledge; experience with Six Sigma methods/tools and experience in Lean Manufacturing is preferred.
Education
  • B.S. in Engineering or related technical field required.

Working Conditions
  • Typical manufacturing/plant environment, with a strong plant-floor presence.
  • Ability and willingness to travel up to 5 percent of time – travel can fluctuate according to business need.
