ITW Specialty Films, a global division of ITW within the Specialty Segment, manufactures and markets specialized coated films for the Secure ID, Medical Specialty Bag, and Financial Card markets. The division leverages unique core competencies and technologies in films, foils, laminates, and holography to address customer needs. Job Description
ITW Specialty Films is seeking a Quality Engineer to perform and manage activities including operational process control, quality improvement, plant efficiency, supplier development, scrap reduction, new product development controls/process development and supports 80/20 initiatives. The Quality Engineer provides expertise and technical leadership in process development and process optimization, across new and existing business activities. The Quality Engineer oversee the ISO/Quality management system by maintaining plant conformance and participating in various audits. This position is based in our Chicago Heights, IL facility, and will report directly to our Sr Technical Manager. Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Develops and analyzes statistical data and product specifications to determine standards and establish proposed quality and reliability expectancy of finished product.
- Provides direction to workers engaged in inspection & testing activities.
- Ensures continuous control over materials, facilities & products.
- Investigates and responds to customer complaints regarding quality.
- Review quality problems with Production Team and assist with action required to correct defect.
- Serves as liaison between Customer and ITW regarding quality concerns.
- Reviews control of nonconformance material disposition and inspection of reworked product.
- Manages Document Control of manufacturing and Quality documents, including distribution, removal of obsolete forms and work instructions.
- Oversees Monthly Data Review and the creation of measurable charts for QMS reporting. DocuSign Envelope ID: D91C4EA6-5CEA-4110-89E4-535B033E6A36
- Reviews quality problems with Production Team and assists with action required to correct defect.
- Prepares periodic reports containing departmental activities, problems, schedules, and rejected items.
- Leads and implements ISO 9001 procedures and customer specific requirements.
- Acts as ISO 9001 Management Representative.
- Assists R&D and Process Engineering in process tasks related to new product development manufacturing.
- Occasionally travels to customer sites to gather data, support sales, troubleshoot process problems.
- Partners with plant personnel on improving/reducing operations issues affecting ink/coating preparation, manufacturing/finishing, and warehousing.
- Researches outside resources (e.g. vendors, raw material suppliers, consultants) who can support evaluation and/or implementation of optimized processes.
- Works safely, following all OSHA and company regulations and procedures.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or related field of study.
- Minimum of 2-5 years’ experience in a similar role in a manufacturing environment using tools such as 80/20, Six Sigma, Kaizen, etc. to improve quality and productivity.
- Relevant experience and/or training with manufacturing processes and unit operations used in the chemical/film industry.
- Excellent interpersonal, communication (written and verbal), and presentation skills; Ability to communicate status on project with colleagues, keep team members informed, and responds clearly to inquiries.
- Organized work style: excellent time management, prioritization abilities, and project management skills.
- Strong analytical ability and logical problem-solving skills. Ability to gather and analyze data and present findings with actionable recommendations.
- Strong technical skills/aptitude: Proficiency in MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.).
