Summary Generated by Built In

At IQM, we build world-leading quantum computers for the well-being of humankind. We design systems to tackle computational challenges beyond the practical limits of classical machines. Our work sits at the edge of science and engineering. It's complex, demanding, and deeply collaborative. We turn deep research into reliable, full-stack systems that drive discoveries in fields like medicine, energy, and technology, reshaping how the world computes.

Join the team that gives quantum a heartbeat.

The Work

We're looking for a QPU Process Engineer to own and improve wafer fabrication processes in our cleanroom. In this role, you'll operate tools, optimize processes, troubleshoot production issues, and design experiments to enhance process quality. You'll collaborate closely with Production, Development, Materials, and Equipment teams to maintain and develop wafer processing steps that directly impact qubit coherence and signal routing performance in quantum processors.

What you'll actually do

  • Become a process owner for specific wafer processes and provide support to other stakeholders.

  • Take a data-driven approach to process engineering - driving process control and continuous improvement.

  • Produce concise technical reports from process activities that feed back into future design iterations.

  • Design experiments to test new processes, eliminate issues, or optimize existing ones.

  • Collaborate closely with other teams across all phases of QPU fabrication.

  • Track wafer WIP using MES systems, Jira, and Confluence.

  • Coordinate with Equipment Engineers to keep production tools and systems in optimal condition.

  • Collaborate with equipment vendors on tool performance, process issues, and capability improvements.

  • Ensure full compliance with health, safety, and cleanroom operational standards.

  • Support 5S activities, production capacity planning, and process improvement initiatives.

What we're looking for

  • 2–3 years of tool operation experience in a wafer production or cleanroom environment.

  • Hands-on experience and expertise in dry etching, related process control and troubleshooting.

  • Master’s degree in engineering, Physics, Chemistry, or a related field. A PhD is an advantage.

  • Solid understanding of SPC (Statistical Process Control), MSA (Measurement Systems Analysis), and DOE (Design of Experiments).

  • Familiarity with cleanroom protocols, EHS standards, and lean manufacturing or continuous improvement principles.

  • Proficiency with data analysis tools such as JMP, Minitab, or equivalent.

  • Proficiency with MES systems, Jira, and standard office tools (MS Office).

Why IQM?
  • Full-stack quantum computing: From quantum hardware to software layers and beyond, we build across the full-stack.

  • High-performance playground: We aim high, and we know sustainable performance only works when life outside work does too—hybrid setups, flexible hours.

  • Never the smartest: Expect to learn constantly. You won't always be the smartest person in the room, and that's the point.

  • Approachable leadership: Flat hierarchy, direct access. Feel free to approach any leaders. They're friendlier than they look!

  • The sweet spot: Big enough to matter. Small enough to move fast. Growing between a startup and a corporation. We’re in the phase where top performers get noticed.

  • Bigger than IQM: Our people build know-how for the entire quantum ecosystem. We publish papers, run hackathons, and help shape a market that's still being defined.

The future of computing won’t build itself. You might be one of the few who do.
  • Meet our people and learn more about IQM on our stories page.

  • Explore our scientific publications.

We'll start interviews and move forward with hiring as soon as we meet strong candidates. Please submit your application soon.
