Head of Capital Modelling – QBE Capital

Bermuda or London

The Opportunity

What if you could shape the capital strategy of one of the most strategically important entities within QBE Group?

QBE is recruiting a Head of Capital Modelling to join QBE Capital, the Group’s internal reinsurer. This is a newly created role, reflecting the growing scale, complexity and strategic importance of QBE Capital, including increased use of capital optimisation, third-party underwriting and alternative capital structures. You’ll play a pivotal role in supporting senior decision-making, engaging with regulators and external stakeholders, and embedding best‑in‑class capital modelling across the business.

About QBE

At QBE, we get to the heart of what matters for our customers. And we do it all with a human touch.

We’re an international insurer with more than 13,000 people working across 26 countries – which means we’re big enough for your ambitions, yet small enough for you to make a real impact. It’s an exciting time. We’re building momentum towards our vision to become the most consistent and innovative risk partner.

What if you could have a positive impact – at work and in the world? As part of the QBE team, you’ll get to spend every day working with people who are passionate, talented and kind.

Your new role

Reporting to the Chief Actuary for QBE Capital, you will lead the capital modelling function for QBE Capital, managing and promoting the use of the Economic Capital Model (ECM) to support decision‑making, risk management and regulatory engagement.

QBE Capital writes approximately $4bn GWP per annum and plays a critical role in the Group’s capital and exposure management. It has recently received an expanded licence to underwrite third‑party business and has been central to major initiatives including the QBE Casualty Sidecar and recent loss portfolio transfers. The continued growth of QBE Capital, alongside new ILS structures and increased balance sheet complexity, reinforces the need for best‑in‑class capital modelling capability.

In this role, you will:

  • Own and develop the Economic Capital Model, ensuring robust governance, documentation, validation and ongoing enhancement

  • Deliver sophisticated and timely modelling of capital, remittance and liquidity impacts of business plans and new initiatives

  • Provide actionable insight to optimise capital requirements and support return on allocated capital analysis

  • Lead comprehensive stress and scenario testing to demonstrate financial resilience to Boards, regulators and other stakeholders

  • Support regulatory capital reporting and engagement in Bermuda, including evaluation of Consumer Specific Parameters and Internal Model opportunities

  • Build strong relationships with regulators, brokers, reinsurers and internal stakeholders across actuarial, finance, underwriting and reserving

  • Lead, mentor and develop a high‑performing capital modelling team, fostering a culture of innovation, accountability and collaboration

About you

  • Qualified actuary with strong experience in capital modelling

  • Deep understanding of regulatory capital frameworks, particularly Bermuda (or equivalent such as Solvency II)

  • Experience working with complex capital structures, such as sidecars, ILS, or legacy transactions (LPTs)

  • Strong stakeholder management skills, with the ability to engage confidently with regulators, senior executives and external partners

  • A collaborative people leader who enjoys developing and motivating teams

  • Self‑motivated, solutions‑focused and comfortable operating in a dynamic, evolving environment
