Job Summary:
This position provides support for wind turbine operations in the Leeward portfolio of wind projects with the primary responsibility of providing guidance to improve overall wind turbine operating performance and improve the safety performance of all individuals working on Leeward sites. The goals of this position are focused in two areas. The first area is related to safe operation and includes identifying safety improve ideas, interfacing with technicians to identify safety concerns and propose solutions and perform audits to ensure compliance with applicable safety standards. The next area of focus is related to turbine performance improvement and includes perform turbine inspections, identifying work quality deficiencies, proposing quality improvement ideas, and working with technicians to identify performance hurdles. The position requires the ability to work closely with others, manage time sensitive projects in a fast-paced environment and communicate effectively with the EHS and operations team.
Responsibilities:
Be knowledgeable on Leeward safety policies and procedures
Identify safety risks and exposures by performing site safety audits and working with site technicians
Perform safety compliance audits
Interface routinely with site technicians to understand daily work challenges and concerns, identify improvement plans as needed
Perform turbine QA/QC inspections and generate reports
Evaluates wind turbine performance and identifies issues
Participate with operations, data analytics, and engineering to understand and improve turbine performance
Evaluates solutions for wind turbine technical issues identified at the wind farms including reliability and performance improvements
Manages wind turbine performance improvement projects
Analyzes, summarizes and communicates findings regularly with Leeward management team
Assist in the development of turbine performance improvement programs
Assist in the development of a formal QA/QC program
Qualifications:
3-5 years of relevant technical experience; experience with wind power generation preferred
2-Year Associates Industrial Health (or similar) Degree
4-Years applicable work experience may be substituted
Excellent communication skills, including ability to clearly communicate with technicians and management
Ability to remain focused and reliable in completing tasks and meeting deadlines with minimal supervision
Demonstrated ability to be self-motivated and manage audits and inspections
Demonstrated ability to manage priorities in a complex and dynamic environment
Demonstrated ability to operate a motor vehicle and possession of a valid driver's license
Turbine climbing and related safety certifications
Fundamental understanding of mechanical and electrical system and components of a wind turbine
Fundamental operations of a wind turbine operations
Ability to read and understand mechanical drawings, hydraulic schematics, wiring diagrams and other common specifications
Physical Demands:
Ability to perform physical tasks including standing, sitting, walking, kneeling, twisting, reaching, and climbing at project locations to inspect and repair equipment or collect information
Ability to climb and work in a wind turbine which includes confined spaces and working at heights
Willingness and ability to travel at least 50%
Position will require sitting for long periods of time as well as occasionally lifting up to twenty-pound boxes.
