QA Manager
We are hiring an experienced Quality Assurance Manager that believes QA is infused into the full Software Development Lifecycle. They believe in the Testing Pyramid, testing heuristics, and pragmatic automation. The QA Manager will not only instill these concepts into their respective QA engineers, but also their peer engineering, product, and design groups. Role Expectations & Responsibilities:
- Lead & develop the QA engineers within the department, ensuring activities in their respective teams are driving towards efficient and high quality software production.
- Management and evolution of the QA team test strategy implementation, standard patterns and practices, execution, and QA involvement in an agile SDLC environment.
- Mentor and coach QA members on test design, automation practices, and test execution methodologies as well as emergent best practices.
- Proactively recommend process, testing methodology, and technology/QA tool improvements across the entire development organization.
- Manage the QA team’s internal interfaces with other functional groups.
- Collaborate with other QA leads and managers creating, aligning, and executing against department goals.
- Reports to leadership quality metrics and departmental risks and impediments.
- Evolve the development and testing processes to improve test efficiency and effectiveness through ever-increasing automated test coverage
- Perform hands-on test coverage review, risk-based analysis, root-cause analysis and mentor QA members on testing strategies and techniques.
- Review QA efforts on a daily basis to ensure blocking issues are reported and resolved within SLAs.
- Review test strategies developed by others and provide feedback to ensure alignment with best practices for effectiveness and test coverage.
- Analyze, evaluate and present information concerning quality, process, and cost to the engineering organization to drive improvements
- Plans, promotes, and organizes training activities related to quality and reliability.
- Define and coordinate triage process, providing high level criteria on issue severity.
- Strategically plan/coordinate the testing effort and assignments to meet the needs of stakeholders.
- Reports directly to Engineering leadership, helping to establish QA department goals enhancing the developer experience and providing quality deliverables to our customers.
Required Education and/or Experience:
- BS Degree in Computer Science or equivalent experience
- Five (5+) plus years of QA experience
- Two (2+) plus years of management experience.
Skills and Knowledge:
- Hands-on, technical experience with effective problem solving skills.
- Experienced in test automation, programming/scripting languages and API test tools such as Postman, Playwright, Javascript/Typescript, Selenium, MongoDB, AWS, wdio, Jest, & Node.
- In-depth understanding of QA methodologies and the software development processes.
- Experience of QA inside of the agile development organization
- Strong people management skills with the ability to hire and develop talented engineers.
- The ability to respond to sudden changes in major roadmap changes and parameters in a rational and effective fashion. Demonstrate a good understanding of current industry standards and best practices.
- Hands-on experience with native mobile app test automation is a plus.
- Exceptional time management and delegation
- Exceptional communication and facilitation skills with demonstrated success in delivering results.
LOCATION: Austin, TX 78701, Hybrid capability highly preferred
SALARY: $140-150k base salary ($160-170k in total compensation including bonus, 401k matching, paid insurance, etc.)
