JOB SUMMARY:

The Psychiatric APRN is a licensed, independent provider responsible for delivering comprehensive psychiatric and recovery-focused care to individuals experiencing behavioral health conditions and/or substance use disorders. Evaluates, manages, and initiates referrals and consultations in accordance with patient needs pursuant to established clinical protocols and accepted standards of medical care. The APRN functions as part of an interdisciplinary treatment team, offering psychiatric evaluations, medication management, and integrated care coordination.

ESSENTIAL/CORE JOB-SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES  

  1. Completes psychiatric evaluations, examinations, treatment planning and assessments using Agency medical record forms and protocols for assigned patients in accordance with established clinical protocol or Clinical Staff Bylaws. Documents assessment information, follow-up, referrals, and consents in accordance with the Client Record Handbook/Bylaws specifications. Provides patient/family education and assists in the coordination of care and treatment as appropriate.

  2. Develops individualized treatment plans, including pharmacological interventions, and monitors psychiatric care, recovery focused care, and treatment for assigned patients in accordance with established clinical protocols and generally accepted standards of medical care. Provides integrated behavioral health care, addressing both psychiatric symptoms and substance use. Documents all care and treatment provided, including consultations and referrals, in accordance with Agency policies, procedures, bylaws and Client Record Handbook specifications.

  3. Prescribes and monitors psychotropic and Medication-Assisted Treatment medications for assigned patients in accordance with clinical protocols.  The monitoring includes the assessment and documentation of the patient's response to medication, alleviation of symptoms, side effects, adverse reactions and interactions.

  4. Meets Service Productivity standard of at least 60% (or 4.8 out of 8 work hours) for the provision of psychiatric services in accordance with applicable clinical/quality criteria which are supported by appropriate clinical record documentation which meet Client Record Handbook specifications, Avatar documentation requirements, and Agency business/clinical ethical standards.

  5. Actively participates in morning meetings, staff meetings, quality assessment and improvement activities, in-service education, medical staff and other committees and work groups as appropriate or assigned by supervisor.

  6. Provides clinical oversight and supervision to the outpatient LPN, ensuring adherence to treatment protocols, medication administration standards, urinalysis procedures for substance use monitoring, and quality care delivery within the scope of practice. Completes performance evaluations in alignment with agency policies and timelines and actively participates in the interview and hiring process for the outpatient LPN role.

Qualifications

Education/Experience: 

  • Master’s in Nursing from an accredited university or college and Florida Licensure as an advanced registered nurse practitioner. 

  • For ‘Psychiatric APRN’ designation, must possess Master’s Degree in Psychiatric Nursing from an accredited university or college.

Licensure or Certification:

  • Licensure as registered nurse and duly certified by the Florida Board of Nursing as an ARNP. 

  • Must maintain current CPR and CPI certifications. 

  • For ‘Psychiatric APRN’ designation, must complete specialty education or training in psychiatry and maintain Certification by the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) as a Clinical Specialist in Adult Psychiatric and Mental Health Nursing. 

  • Must possess current, valid driver’s license and maintain Apalachee Authorized Driver status (less than seven points on license).

Skills Required

  • Master's in Nursing from an accredited university or college
  • Master's Degree in Psychiatric Nursing (for Psychiatric APRN designation)
  • Florida licensure as an Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioner (ARNP) and RN licensure
  • Certification by the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) as a Clinical Specialist in Adult Psychiatric and Mental Health Nursing (for Psychiatric APRN designation)
