Positions in this function are involved in the definition, management, and implementation of technology focused projects/programs. Do not use this function is not used for project/program management in non-technology roles. Positions are business specialists and technology generalists that manage, direct and interface with business clients.
Projects are more stand-alone than programs; program management is typically the orchestration of several related projects. At entry level individual contributor roles, the primary focus will be project management. As one advances through the career path, their focus may be project or program focused, depending on business need.
Primary Responsibilities:

  • Work with Program Manager to ready the project to start
  • Build comprehensive timelines as well as other artifacts required to move project forward
  • Create a comprehensive Project plan and keep it up to date with any adjustments or updates
  • Report back to the Program Manager and to PMO leadership on project status as instructed
  • Manage risks/issues/decisions with a strong results orientation
  • Follow up with all team members on deliverables
  • Track change and submit change requests as required
  • Ensure all parties are updated regularly
  • Own the creation of any additional information or materials
  • Address challenges as they arise
  • Escalate unresolved issues on a timely basis
  • Think beyond the working model to create what is needed
  • Generally work is self-directed and not prescribed
  • Works with less structured, more complex issues
  • Serves as a resource to others
  • Defining work strategies, aligning these with resources and desired client outcomes, and overseeing planning and execution of the work
  • Ensuring technology solutions are managed to support business strategies, often working with senior management
  • Directing the integration of technical aspects of all related projects/programs
  • Conducting analyses, needs assessments, and cost/benefit assessments and helping to broker other technology services
  • Monitoring financials to ensure budget compliance
  • Release management

Required Qualifications:

  • Undergraduate degree or equivalent experience
  • 8+ years of technical Project Management experience, including reporting into a PMO structure
  • Average to advanced MS Office Suite; PPM system updates; time-tracking; understanding of SDLC, IT development process; Agile methodology
  • Full COVID-19 vaccination is an essential requirement of this role. UnitedHealth Group will adhere to all federal, state and local regulations as well as all client requirements and will obtain necessary proof of vaccination prior to employment to ensure compliance


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with a variety of technical project types digital and software development, infrastructure, process management
  • Experience working with or having knowledge of agent/broker insurance business, including licensing and commissions
  • Fast learner
  • Open nature, a sense of humor, and a good reputation for problem solving. Not afraid to ask questions and knows what to do with the answers. Not new to contracting or working within a PMO
  • High emotional resilience; quick and perceptive learner; resilience strong emotional intelligence
  • Self-starter, who can work on their own once they've been introduced. Manage multiple projects at once and will not be impeded by complexity, ambiguity, or change. Remove barriers for their team and manage to a project schedule
