Position Overview:

The Hardware Project Lead (HWPL) is the technical lead and decision maker within the project team for all Hardware (Electrical, Mechanical and Optics) development activities. They are the single point contact to the Engineering Project Manager (EPM) for all Hardware development topics. This includes HW development timeline by work package/adherence to EEPM development process, prioritization of efforts, risk mitigation, problem solving, timely development and quality of work packages. Ideal position for those engineers looking for a management path in their career plans. This position will lead HW development for ADAS forward looking camera and central vision perception ECU development and new business acquisition for an Asian customer with the development team primarily residing in North America.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead Hardware Development Planning & timely execution of work packages
  • Define/Coordinate Electrical, Mechanical and Optical budget and resource planning. Assign tasks accordingly per HW team discipline global footprint.
  • Escalate and resolve team resource gaps with HW line management.
  • Plan, manage and drive on time delivery of Electrical, Mechanical and Optical deliverables in accordance with the project scope and milestones as defined by the EPM. Monitor execution and implement corrective actions as needed with EPM.
  • Lead DFM and DFT reviews, resolution of findings and implementation
  • Lead project level Hardware issue resolution/risk mitigation/change management
  • Lead Hardware Requirements Verification and Validation Planning & Execution
  • Ensure on time execution of Hardware testing in accordance with overall project test strategy (with VPL).
  • Responsible for resolution of open test issues, countermeasures implementation and design updates as necessary and obtain stakeholder (incl. customer) approval.
  • Conduct Hardware Design Reviews.
  • Consolidate hardware prototype needs for all disciplines per project sample loop plan together with EPM. Ensure stakeholder alignment of technical maturity.
  • Lead components procurement with the Purchasing organization, Manufacturing Plant and Suppliers / Distributors & plan/coordinate prototype builds for internal and external customers.
  • Lead Hardware bring-up and functional verification for prototype and production designs
  • Manage external hardware suppliers for the project
  • Align project schedule and technical milestones with hardware suppliers and ensure linking of internal and supplier schedules.
  • Monitor and control supplier progress throughout the project. Ensure on time delivery of supplier engineering deliverables according to agreed schedule. Implement countermeasures as needed.
  • Serve as main Electrical, Mechanical and Optical interface in the project both internally and externally.
  • Act as main technical interface to the Component team / Suppliers to ensure performances and quality targets are met.
  • Monitor the BOM cost and define corrective actions to reach defined target jointly with the EPM and Purchasing.


Experience:

  • 8+ years of micro based hardware ECU development
  • Preferred development experience at a tier 1 automotive supplier. Will consider other ECU technical hardware development experience
  • Project management skills
  • Strong experience with structured problem solving of complex/intermittent functional ECU issues.
  • Preparation and presentation to management the risk mitigation proposal for project technical and schedule development issues is highly desirable.
  • Lead engineer experience, leading day to day activities of a team of engineers is highly desirable.
  • Ability to communicate with and understand the needs of the cross-functional engineering team disciplines (Software, Systems, Test, Algorithms).


Position Requirements:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical, Mechanical or OpticalEngineering or related field
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and oral
  • Strong sense of urgency/ownership and personal commitment
  • Ability to read, analyze and interpret complex documents
  • Highly motivated and disciplined in time management
