The Morningstar Retirement business unit focuses on helping individuals achieve better outcomes by collaborating with institutional clients in the global defined contribution and workplace markets. The Role
The Morningstar Retirement team is seeking a knowledgeable and motivated Scrum Master to join its Project Management team in Mumbai. This role focuses on driving Agile delivery and strong Scrum practices to support critical initiatives across global, cross-functional teams. You will collaborate closely with product, technology, and operations partners to enable effective execution and continuous improvement. The Scrum Master will facilitate Agile ceremonies, remove impediments, and coach teams and stakeholders to improve delivery outcomes. You will apply a good working knowledge of project management to support planning, manage dependencies and risks, and ensure transparency through Agile metrics and reporting. Experience working with globally distributed teams in a fast-paced environment is essential.
Responsibilities
- Serve as Scrum Master, driving Agile values, Scrum practices, and continuous improvement
- Facilitate all Scrum ceremonies and ensure effective team participation
- Coach teams, Product Owners, and stakeholders on Agile mindset and ways of working
- Enable self-organizing, cross-functional teams and remove impediments to delivery
- Support backlog refinement, estimation, sprint planning, and release planning
- Track and communicate progress using Agile metrics (velocity, burndown/burnup, sprint outcomes)
- Manage dependencies, risks, and issues in an Agile delivery environment
- Maintain high-level project timelines, milestones, and delivery plans aligned with Agile releases
- Provide regular status updates to stakeholders on progress, risks, and dependencies
- Support resource coordination and capacity planning
- Assist with change management and ensure alignment with governance and reporting requirements
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in business administration, Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field, with 7+ years of overall professional experience
- 3-5 years of hands-on experience as a Scrum Master working with Agile delivery teams
- Strong understanding of Agile methodologies with practical experience in Agile environments
- Working knowledge of both Agile and traditional project management frameworks
- Excellent organizational, communication, time management, problem-solving, and analytical skills
- Proactive planning and organizing skills, with the ability to manage uncertainty and change with a positive attitude
- Proven ability to influence decision-making and foster an environment of healthy team collaboration and debate
- Strong active listening and stakeholder engagement skills
- Good-to-have knowledge of SAFe framework concepts, including Program Increment (PI) Planning
- PSM, CSM, or equivalent Agile/PM certification is a plus
- Hands-on experience with project management tools such as Atlassian (Jira, Confluence), Asana, or similar platforms
- Willingness to work in a hybrid model, currently requiring four days per week in the Mumbai office
