In this role, you will have the opportunity to lead the execution of small/medium projects with low and medium complexity and ensure that all related activities are executed in accordance with company procedures, relevant cyber security regulations and standards, contract specifications, quality standards, health, safety & environment requirements, cost/profitability targets, and scheduling targets. You will also get opportunity to lead high‑impact rail transportation projects involving propulsion systems, auxiliary converters, and other rolling stock subsystems. This role is ideal for a project leader with deep engineering expertise, Contract management, strong command of QCD (Quality, Cost, Delivery) Metrics, and hands‑on experience with quality standards like IRIS/ISO TS22163 and CENELEC/EN5012X.

This role is contributing to the Motion business for Traction Division based in Bangalore, India:
You will be mainly accountable for:
Project Leadership - PMP Certified Project Manager – Rolling Stock Equipment or any other equivalent certification is mandatory.
• Leads the project team allocated to the project. Motivates and monitors internal and external resources to accomplish all tasks and milestones.• Provides performance feedback regarding allocated resources working on projects.
Instructions and guidelines
• Ensures compliance to standard ABB internal directives and procedure, relevant cyber security regulations, standards, and contractual requirements.
Project execution and control
• Ensures that the project follows execution best practices and ABB policies. Effectively monitors and controls project progress and efficient resource utilization.
• Monitors and controls project financials, overseeing project invoicing status, cost, expenses, and cash flow.
• Identifies, qualifies, quantifies, and manages project risk, and ensures that all opportunities are identified and pursued. Captures, analyses and shares lessons learned throughout the project. Drives the formal acceptance of the project, contract close-out and acknowledgement by the customer, all in accordance with the contract.
Contract and claims/ & Procurement Management
• Ensures that the project consistently applies contract and claims management, in accordance with ABB policies and contractual agreements.
• Coordinates with Supply Chain Management and successfully procures required services, materials, and equipment for the project from external and internal suppliers.
• Supports Procurement and Logistics in supplier negotiations, claims and project changes.
Stakeholder relations
• Acts as the key contact for the customer and an escalation point for project issues. Builds and maintains strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders and effectively communicates with all stakeholders.
Health, safety, and environment (HSE)
• Ensures the project follows and complies with company health, safety, and environmental policies.
• Creates project HSE Plans and ensures that common HSE policies and reporting are implemented across the project with all stakeholders, including collaboration/consortium partners and sub-suppliers. Demonstrates unique actions/initiatives to support site safety and ensures consistent HSE performance.
Project Recovery
• Applies immediate recovery actions for schedule delays and cost overruns, under guidance and coaching if required.
Planning and scheduling
• Defines and applies basic project scheduling techniques to manage schedule risks proactively to avoid possible future schedule deviations with OTD impact.
• Breaks down work packages into activities that provide a basis for estimating, scheduling, executing, monitoring, and controlling the project work and develops project schedule based on scope, cost, and resource constraints. Establishes a schedule baseline from which to manage the project schedule and monitor and document progress for all engineering, procurement, manufacturing, testing, site work and other activities continuously.
• Tracks progress and updates schedules regularly to reflect project changes and work progress and escalates deviations according to local guidelines. Demonstrates an understanding of critical path theory and can calculate and explain its purpose and function.
Document Management
• Identifies and plans all document deliverables required by the contractual scope of work and incorporates this plan into the overall project plan/schedule.
• Tracks document progress and follows-up on overdue comments from customer. Drive continuous improvement using Lean methodologies, 6 Sigma tools, and structured problem‑solving frameworks (FMEA/FMECA, RCA, LCC).
Qualifications for the role
- Full time - BE (Electronics & communication/ Electrical & Electronics).
- Minimum 10 years of Project Management experience with independent project handling capabilities.
- Effective team Player. Proficiency on MS projects.
- Understanding of SAP PS Project Module. PMP or any equivalent Project Management certification.
- Internal & External Customer interactions. Good communication skills.
- Project Schedule & cost monitoring.
