Key Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills and Experience

  • M.Sc. / B.SC. Civil Engineering, 20 years of experience in feasibility studies, tender design, detail design, contract documentation and construction site supervision for hydro projects.
  • Demonstrated experience in Project Management and as Team Leader.
  • Ability to write effectively in English to furnish reports and to prepare business development materials including proposals.
  • Co-operative and flexible work style to accommodate workload and deadlines when required and able to work under pressure.
  • Willingness to travel and work abroad at locations as required by ongoing projects.
  • Willingness to learn new skills and acquire new knowledge.
  • Ability to develop and maintain Client relationships.

Key Responsibilities

  • Technical and Financial Project Management of Hydropower and Dam Projects, to include but not limited to feasibility studies, tender design, detail design, tender/contract documentation and construction site supervision.
  • Leading the project design/site teams, controlling project time and cost management, review of project deliverables.
  • Review and Quality Assurance of technical input to projects and ensure compliance with SMEC BMS for execution of works and deliverables on a day to day basis (including delivery according to the delivery schedule and achieving Client satisfaction).
  • Financial performance, including managing the budget, invoicing, revenue collection and management of Project costs.
  • Establishing and maintaining a close working relationship with the Client and the Project Advisory Board, in consultation with the General Manager (GM) and Project Director (PD).
  • Monitoring of SMEC’s Project work according to the Project scope, including making claims for contract variations where appropriate.
  • Human resource management of the Project staff, including maintaining competent staff, monitoring of staff performance, guiding, mentoring and training needs. 
  • Implementation of the requirements of equal employment opportunity and privacy legislation and the principles of workplace diversity.
  • Compliance with relevant legal requirements, including occupational health, safety and rehabilitation (OHS&R) legislation.
  • Compliance with other requirements including codes of practice and standards, relevant to the workplace and project deliverables.
  • Communications management, to ensure that adequate communication is maintained with all Project stakeholders; and procurement of Project needs and resources.
  • Ensure project technical & deliverable quality by making sure project QA, audits and verification are undertaken in a timely and appropriate manner.
  • Manage sub-consultants and sub-contracts as required for Project delivery.
  • Liaise with SMEC technical experts internationally as required to deliver the Project.
  • Be a good team player and participate in local office activities with a one SMEC attitude.
  • Participation in Proposal preparations and marketing activities

Key Performance Indicators

  • Overall accountability for management of the Project to ensure that deliverables are on schedule, within budget and to an acceptable quality standard and the Client’s satisfaction.
  • Accountable for delivery of all milestones, reports and presentations to key stakeholders on issues relating to the Project, as required.
  • Comply with all SMEC reporting and compliance procedures.
  • Maintaining a close working relationship with Project Clients and Stakeholders to ensure they are satisfied and are repeat clients for SMEC.
