Job Description

Do Yourself a Power of Good

Vector is collaborating with AWS and other leading global technology firms—right here in Aotearoa New Zealand—to tackle some of the world’s biggest energy challenges.

In 2020, Vector and Amazon Web Services (AWS) formed an alliance to co-develop Diverge, a cloud-native data platform. This partnership evolved into Vector Technology Services (VTS), a wholly owned subsidiary of Vector, New Zealand’s largest distributor of electricity and gas.

As VTS continues to grow, we’re expanding our Delivery team to accelerate our mission: building commercially valuable, cloud-native platforms and products that address the energy challenges of today and tomorrow.

We’re looking for a seasoned Software Project Manager ready for something more meaningful than routine delivery. If you're motivated by complex, high-impact work and want to collaborate with a sharp, energised team solving real-world problems—this could be the challenge you’ve been looking for.

The Opportunity

As our new Project Manager at VTS (your title will be Delivery Lead within our business), you’ll work closely alongside your VTS colleagues in the Delivery,  Engineering and Product teams, as well as with our customers across metering and network management and planning to deliver multiple initiatives across the VTS portfolio.

You’ll own projects end-to-end, ensuring strong governance, commercial viability, and meaningful outcomes for both VTS and our customers.

At VTS, today you might run a defect meeting, pull together a Statement of Work, and review your budgets. Tomorrow you could run a risk assessment workshop, make sure the teams are delivering to plan, and provide a progress update to your stakeholders. Does this sound like you?

You’ll be responsible for:

  • Securing project funding through robust business cases and owning governance processes
  • Translating business cases and technical requirements into commercially clear Statements of Work (SOWs) alongside Engineering and Product teams
  • Working with Product Owners and Technical Leads alongside development teams, responsible for  delivering back end front end software changes to our Diverge platform and other systems,
  • Managing delivery reporting including project status, risks, issues, and budgets across pipeline, in-progress, and operational activities
  • Providing financial reporting and analysis on projects to the Head of Delivery

What You’ll Bring

  • A proven track record in implementing software change in SaaS platforms, ideally with experience in AWS, cloud-native, or serverless environments
  • At least 5 years of solid experience in the full software development lifecycle (SDLC) and scaled agile methodologies
  • Demonstratable history of managing multiple, concurrent projects with budgets over $1M, while maintaining strong governance and timely delivery in a fast-paced environment
  • Strength in stakeholder engagement across complex, matrixed organisations
  • A collaborative, “roll-up-your-sleeves” attitude and experience navigating cross-functional team dynamics
  • Natural communication skills, with a track record of leading client-facing meetings, facilitating workshops, and driving action from stakeholders
  • Preferred background in Utilities or Telecommunications, with SAP or metering experience an added bonus
  • Strong business analysis capabilities, including requirement gathering, SOW and business case definition.

We Also Offer:

  • A fun, flexible, and stimulating work environment, filled with interesting work being done by smart and innovative people
  • Flexibility, including the option to work from home a couple of days a week, and flexible start and finish times to help balance work and life
  • Health and wellbeing support
  • Great benefits that reflect the importance of family

What We Do

We are New Zealand's largest distributor of electricity and gas, owning and operating networks which span the Auckland region. But we don’t stop here - our reach extends to Australia and the Pacific Islands, shaping a new energy future for our customers, through innovative digital and engineering solutions, metering services, solar energy solutions, electric vehicle (EV) networks, high speed internet fibre, air and water purification to name a few.

We haven’t been afraid to challenge the status quo. As leaders of the transformation of the energy sector, we know the ‘same old’ just won’t cut it. We have the confidence to forge new solutions and for our people to work differently, to think differently. We have collaborated with global technology companies and thought leaders who share our view that innovation and digitalisation are key to meeting the future needs of energy systems and fast-evolving customer demands. As governments, businesses and consumers urgently take action to decarbonise, at Vector we are clear on our vision – creating a new energy future.

Because we live in a world that is changing fast, we must continue to identify and develop better options that will provide value, choice and service for our customers throughout New Zealand and beyond, so the environment and communities we love continue to thrive. To do this, Vector has a vision of creating a new energy future, which will help to deliver clean, reliable and affordable energy solutions for customers.
