About the job…
The Project Manager (Order Engineering) will provide an outstanding experience to all our internal business partners and external customers. Utilize multiple web-based orders and design systems to enter and manage capital orders primarily for our GPHE and BHE customers. Serve as a technical liaison between Alfa Laval’s GPHE and BHE factories, the Sales Company, and our customers.
This is an onsite position located in Richmond, VA.
Responsibilities include:
- Establish and maintain a strong working knowledge of all order entry and design systems utilized in the order fulfilment process.
- Monitor incoming orders to ensure they are prioritized and booked in the appropriate time frame. Work directly with sales, Alfa Laval factories, and the customer to ensure that the scope of all orders is clearly understood.
- Work with sales and data stewards to ensure the correct customers and ALSIS dimensions are utilized for each order.
- Manage complex orders for GPHE’s and BHE’s.
- Manage medium and large projects for other product groups within the team’s order management scope.
- Serve as liaison between customers, the sales company, and Alfa Laval factories. Interact with factories daily to ensure that purchase orders, communication, and documentation are flowing according to our customer’s delivery and quality expectations.
- Participate in design review meetings, document review meetings, and weekly update meetings with the factories. Conduct monthly meetings with factory project managers to ensure order status is understood and clearly communicated to all stakeholders.
- Work together with sales and the factories to secure that all advance invoices, milestone invoices, and retention invoices are executed accurately and on-time according to the contract with the customer.
- Provide engineering support and product expertise to our customers related to all order documents, drawings, nozzle loads, stress calculations, paint systems, welding, fabrication, and non-destructive testing. Handle technical customer inquiries and revise customer documents as needed.
- Work with sales and treasury to initiate and execute currency hedge contracts for purchase orders with factories overseas.
- Collaborate with shared services to ensure the correct accounting for your orders and to resolve any invoice disputes.
- Support the customer claims process. Prioritize and execute remedial actions needed to fix the problem for the customer.
- Ensure all order backlog data in our systems is always accurate, including sales prices, order costs and shipping dates.
- Monitor gross margins and work with factories and sales to resolve any issues with costs.
- Interface with our customer’s web portals to extract orders and forecast information, process orders, and upload order documentation and invoices.
- Work with Global Logistics and freight forwarders to coordinate export and import of goods from Alfa Laval factories to customers.
What you know:
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering required.
- Preferred 3 years of experience working with project management in an industrial environment
- Gasketed Plate Heat Exchanger and Welded Heat Exchanger product knowledge.
- Working knowledge of shipping terms and payment terms.
- Technical product knowledge of gasketed plate heat exchangers and welded heat exchangers.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills and must be diligent with answering questions and following up.

At Alfa Laval, we carefully consider a wide range of factors to determine your total compensation package. We rely on market indicators and consider your specific job, background, skills, and experience to get it right. The base salary for this role is typically $82,000.00 to $87,000.00.
