At ICON, we are committed to advancing healthcare by delivering innovative pharmaceutical solutions that help bring life-changing medicines to patients faster. We're looking for an experienced CMC Project Manager II to join our Accelerated Pharmaceutical Solutions team in Assen.

This is an exciting opportunity for a scientifically minded project manager who enjoys working at the intersection of science, client management, and cross-functional collaboration. You'll lead Chemistry, Manufacturing and Controls (CMC) projects supporting early-phase drug product development, ensuring projects are delivered on time, within budget, and to the highest quality standards.

What You'll Do

As a CMC Project Manager II, you will take ownership of multiple client projects from award through to completion, acting as the central point of contact for clients, laboratory teams, and internal stakeholders.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Leading and managing multiple CMC projects from early development through to commercialisation.
  • Developing and maintaining detailed project plans, timelines, budgets, resource forecasts, and risk assessments.
  • Coordinating multidisciplinary teams across Analytical Development, Formulation Development, Manufacturing, Regulatory Affairs, Quality Assurance, and other operational functions.
  • Building strong client relationships by providing clear, proactive communication on project progress, milestones, risks, and deliverables.
  • Collaborating with laboratory teams to develop and validate manufacturing processes and analytical methods.
  • Reviewing and supporting the authoring of method validation reports, pharmaceutical analysis reports, QC documentation, GMP documentation, and other technical deliverables.
  • Working closely with Planning to ensure appropriate resources are available to meet project timelines.
  • Monitoring project budgets, processing billing activities, and preparing change orders when project scope changes.
  • Identifying project risks early and implementing effective mitigation strategies to ensure successful delivery.
  • Supporting regulatory submissions by coordinating and providing CMC documentation in line with FDA, EMA, ICH and GMP requirements.
  • Liaising with sponsors, vendors, and internal teams to ensure projects are executed efficiently while maintaining the highest standards of quality and compliance.

What You'll Bring

We're looking for an organised and proactive project manager with a strong scientific background and excellent stakeholder management skills. You will need to live a commutable distance from our Assen location as the role will require you to be office based at least 60% of the time.

You'll ideally have:

  • A Bachelor's degree (or higher) in Pharmaceutical Sciences, Chemistry, Organic Chemistry, Medicinal Chemistry, or another relevant scientific discipline.
  • At least four years of experience in pharmaceutical project management or within a laboratory environment.
  • String Dutch and English language skills - both written and verbal
  • Experience managing complex CMC or pharmaceutical development projects.
  • A strong understanding of GMP regulations and pharmaceutical quality requirements.
  • Knowledge of global regulatory expectations, including FDA, EMA and ICH guidelines.
  • Excellent planning, organisational, and problem-solving skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously.
  • Outstanding communication and relationship-building skills, with experience managing both internal and external stakeholders.
  • A collaborative approach and a passion for delivering high-quality scientific projects.
  • Willingness to travel occasionally (approximately 1%).

Why Join ICON?

At ICON, you'll be part of a global organisation that's transforming clinical research and pharmaceutical development. You'll collaborate with talented scientific experts, work on innovative drug development programmes, and have the opportunity to make a real impact on bringing new medicines to patients.

If you're looking for a role where science meets project leadership, we'd love to hear from you.
