Project Engineer

We are currently hiring an experienced Project Engineer located in Long Beach, CA. This opportunity will have you working within our Education project sector. The Education team is a prime consultant to multiple school districts in the country and provides services to K-12 as well as higher education institutions nationally. You will be teaming with project, program, and client leadership to provide premier educational facilities for our nation’s youth and adults seeking to better themselves through learning.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

• Provide design, technical, engineering, and administrative support to the project team during the preconstruction, construction, and closeout phases of the project.
• Coordinates with contractors, architects, engineers, inspectors, consultants and school staff.
• Responsible for project document control, circulating, receiving, tracking, and maintaining organized document files such as meeting minutes, RFIs, submittals, change orders, ASIs, schedules, etc.
• Responsible for management of review comments from project stakeholders.
• Participates in, and occasionally runs, design construction, or pe-bid meetings.
• Makes field checks on construction, demolition, rehabilitation, alteration addition or repair projects to determine compliance with job specifications, plans, and established school standards.
• Reads and interprets construction plans, specifications and shop drawings.
• Assists in preparing written materials including correspondence, reports, procedures, and guidelines.
• Supports development of daily/weekly/monthly project status reports and photos reports for project team.
• Reviews, estimates, negotiates, and processes construction change orders and construction field orders.
• Reviews and enforces construction and professional services contracts.
• Facilitates resolutions of construction and design issues.
• Confirms contractors maintenance of records prior to monthly progress payments to the Contractor.
• Prepares Scope of Work and procurement documents for solicitation of consultant and contractor services.
• Manages close-out of construction projects, including, but not limited to, punch-lists, as-builts, archiving, and DSA certification.
• Other job-related duties or projects as assigned.

Knowledge & Skills Required:

• Experience with design & bid formulation and project phase scheduling.
• Experience with the Addenda and Bid process.
• Ability to facilitate site meetings and prepare meeting minutes.
• Ability to communicate with various stakeholders, internal and external to the company. 
• Demonstrate an understanding of how project documentation impacts the project flow. 
• Ability to read blueprints. 
• Utilize effective written and oral communication skills. 
• Understand how your role contributes to the organization's goals. 
• Deliver quality work product by role modeling organizational core values.

Preferred Education and Experience:

• Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Architecture, Engineering, or related field.   
• A minimum of five (5) years of experience in construction project management. Prior experience supporting public works and/or educational facility projects is required.
• Experience with Design-Build and/or Progressive Design-Build project delivery methods.
• Experience working on large construction projects ($50M+) preferred.
• Proficient with Bluebeam.

The salary range for this full-time role is $84,400.00-$112,533.35 per year. Ranges are determined based on the position, geography, client and industry experience and level, and represent a good faith effort to provide a fair and equitable salary. This range reflects base salary only, and not the total compensation package. Cumming Group reserves the right to pay more or less than the posted range, depending on a candidate’s experience, skills, and qualifications, including client requirements.
