We are looking forward to a Project Engineer – Prefabrication & Integration PMO in Eaton’s ANZ Electrical Sector, based in various locations across Australia and New Zealand. The Project Engineer is a key customer-facing technical interface and assistant project manager for prefabricated and integrated solutions contracts. The role drives technical compliance, interface coordination and project execution across multi-vendor equipment packages, modular assemblies and packaged switchrooms, without responsibility for authoring primary detailed designs.
Acting as the bridge between client engineering representatives, internal teams and partner fabricators, the Project Engineer leads technical reviews, resolves multidisciplinary interface challenges, tracks fabrication milestones and coordinates integrated factory testing to ensure delivered packages meet contractual scope, quality and program requirements.
- Deliver project technical requirements and coordination in accordance with the Project Management Office Delivery Model.
- Act as assistant project manager across assigned projects and programs, supporting schedule tracking, milestone coordination and technical governance.
- Serve as the frontline technical contact for client engineering teams and consultants. Lead technical exchange meetings, design reviews and clarification workshops with support from engineering teams and subject matter experts.
- Review customer technical specifications, contract schedules and scope matrices to capture requirements across packaged assemblies.
- Review engineering designs and vendor submittals prepared by design engineering teams to confirm compliance with client specifications and Eaton standards, without creating detailed design drawings.
- Identify and resolve electrical, mechanical and structural layout interferences between third-party enclosures and internal equipment before fabrication begins.
- Coordinate technical inquiries, clarifications and requests for information involving clients, consultants, internal engineering teams and partner fabricators.
- Track production progress and long-lead component deliveries with external fabricators, package builders and equipment vendors to maintain schedule alignment.
- Review and validate equipment bills of materials, subcontract scopes of work and supplier requisitions against the contract technical baseline.
- Support the project manager in identifying technical change requests, evaluating scope creep and developing variation costings and schedule impacts.
- Review and coordinate technical submittals, vendor drawings and equipment schedules to secure timely client engineering approval.
- Lead reviews of inspection and test plans, witness integrated factory testing with client inspectors and confirm that factory acceptance testing criteria are met before dispatch.
- Support site teams and commissioning managers by coordinating technical resolutions for customer interfaces, punch lists and on-site integration challenges.
- Coordinate with document controllers to assemble complete handover packages, including as-built documentation, factory test reports, compliance certificates, and operation and maintenance manuals.
- Facilitate lessons-learned reviews focused on packaging fit, modular interface improvements and standardisation opportunities for future projects.
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Mechanical, Mechatronics or Systems Engineering, or an equivalent tertiary qualification.
- At least three years of experience in project engineering, systems engineering or technical delivery within the electrical, modular building or construction industries.
- Experience with integrated electrical equipment packages, substations or packaged switchrooms is highly regarded.
- Strong knowledge of electrical engineering, including low-voltage and medium-voltage power distribution, control and quality products and systems, and modular packaging concepts.
- Ability to interpret, cross-check and review multidisciplinary engineering packages, including structural layouts, single-line diagrams, schematic diagrams, and mechanical piping and heating, ventilation and air-conditioning layouts.
- Intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project, SharePoint and Visio.
- Experience using enterprise resource planning systems such as SAP and document management workflows.
- Professional and confident client-facing presence, with strong interpersonal and relationship-building skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain technical concepts clearly to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Strong analytical and technical problem-solving skills, with high attention to detail.
- High initiative and ownership, with the ability to work autonomously while contributing to a broader project team.
- Strong organisation, multitasking and prioritisation skills under demanding project milestones.
- Commercial awareness and the aptitude to grow into full project management responsibilities.
