Summary:

GrayWolf is seeking a Project Engineer with experience supporting a range of projects in the Heavy Industrial Sector. This position interacts with customers, engineers, field supervision and suppliers to plan work and resolve field issues. A Project Engineer will serve construction projects and is expected to be full time on the project site. This position is intended as a development role with a defined career path toward becoming a Project Manager.

Essential Functions

  • Interact with owners, engineers, and estimators to prepare, review, or validate project estimates, scopes of work, and contracts.
  • Reviews design drawings and 3D BIM Models for accuracy and completeness, and coordinates resolution of discrepancies and/or missing information with customers, design team, other trades, detailing, shop, & field as may be necessary.
  • Provide oversight of field activities to ensure installations are accurately built to established contract documents and quality standards, on schedule, and within budgets.
  • Coordinate construction activities with Owners, Engineers, or OEMs, including ongoing owner operations and other construction activities by others.
  • Organize detailing RFI process through formal RFI to customer and informal RFI’s with the engineer, architect, and general contractor. Facilitates and fulfills other documentation efforts and duties and as may be required.
  • Monitor productivity and verify earned value for progress payments, updates, and contractor claims.
  • Distribute and route drawings. Coordinate with Document Control to avoid delays and maintain logs.
  • Recognize and initiate key steps in the Change Order Management process.
  • Update project schedules and generate status reports.
  • Act as front-line technical liaison for Owner and Engineers. 
  • Provide technical analysis and recommendation to GrayWolf front line supervision.
  • Essential part of the Project Management Team in achieving successful project results.
  • Work closely with Director of Project Management and Detailing Manager to assist with selection and training of incoming and current Project Engineers, Field Engineers and/or Trainee’s

Qualifications: 

  • BS degree in Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering, or Construction Management with (4) or more years of multidisciplinary construction experience OR Minimum (7) years of similar construction experience in industrial environments such as pulp & paper, chemical, power, or heavy industrial, with background in scheduling and project controls. Experience in cost tracking, RFI, Take-Offs/Quantities, Estimating will be key in selecting the right candidate. 
  • NCCER Certifications preferred but not required
  • OSHA 10/30 preferred but not required

Desired Skills or Knowledge

  • Logical and reasoned evaluation of field conditions and possible solutions.
  • Ability to coordinate and facilitate work across a broad range of personnel, supervision, craft, engineers and project managers. Must be collaborative and able to openly engage with colleagues to achieve project goals.
  • Ability to direct subcontractors and other 3rd party agents.
  • Must be very well-organized and be able to handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Must be flexible with day-to-day duties and able to thrive in a dynamic environment.
  • Able to translate technical concepts to broader audience. 
  • Experience in O365 – Sharepoint, Teams, Excel (experience with formulas, pivot tables, graphs, charts) is required.
  • Experience in project management software is required such as Procore, InEight, P6/Primavera, CAD/BIM, Navisworks as example is required.

Physical/Site Requirements:

  • Lift and carry heavy items weighing up to 45 pounds.
  • Move in and around confined and cluttered places, and uneven areas. Full range of motion and flexibility consistent with age.
  • Work up to a 12-hour shift in varying temperature extremes and other outside conditions.
  • Climb and maintain balance on steel framework, stairs, ladders, and scaffolds.
  • PPE footwear/prescription safety glasses or eye shields required. This job site requires long sleeves

Skills Required

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering, or Construction Management plus at least 4 years of multidisciplinary construction experience
  • Alternatively, at least 7 years of similar construction experience in industrial environments, with scheduling and project controls experience
  • Experience with cost tracking, RFIs, take-offs or quantities, and estimating
  • Experience with Microsoft 365, SharePoint, Teams, and Excel, including formulas, pivot tables, graphs, and charts
  • Experience with project management software such as Procore, InEight, Primavera P6, CAD/BIM, or Navisworks
  • NCCER certification
  • OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 certification
  • Ability to work full time on an industrial construction project site, including extended shifts and physically demanding conditions
