SK On, a proud member of SK Group, the second largest conglomerate with a revenue size of $150 billion, is one of the fastest-growing battery manufacturers globally. With ambitious plans to reach over 180GWh manufacturing capacity in the US, SK On is at the forefront of innovation in the energy storage sector. In response to the increasing domestic demand, SK On is set to manufacture state-of-the-art 5.3 MWh DC Blocks, fully compliant with the latest US domestic requirements and eligible for full ITC benefits. Additionally, SK On has contracted and awarded projects totaling 7GWh to be installed in the US starting in 2026.
We are seeking a highly skilled and experience Project Engineer to lead the technical design, engineering, and execution of complex utility-scale and commercial Energy Storage Systems (ESS). The ideal candidate will possess deep expertise in power electric systems, including Power Conversion Systems (PCS), battery technologies, and Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA). This role requires a strong background in electrical design, as well as an advanced understanding of data and control systems architecture critical for ESS performance and grid integration.
Responsibilities:
- ESS Design and Optimization: Lead the complete electrical and control system design for ESS projects, ensuring compliance with all relevant codes, standards (e.g., UL, IEEE, NEC), and utility requirements. Optimize system performance, efficiency, and cost-effectiveness.
- Technical Project Ownership: Partner with the project management team members and coordinate all the technical activities on the project. Deliver and manage all the technical deliveries to meet contractual commitments.
- Project Execution Risk Management: Track technical deliverables and analyze technical designed on BESS, PCS, Networking, EMS to highlight/resolve risks to deliver projects on time and on budget.
- System Integration: Manage the technical integration of all power electric subsystems, ensuring seamless interaction between the PCS, Battery Management System (BMS), and the plant-level SCADA/control system.
- Controls and Data Systems: Design and manage the implementation of the project's data acquisition, monitoring, and control system architecture coordinating with internal BMS engineers and SCADA partners. This includes defining telemetry points, communication protocols (e.g., Modbus, DNP3), and logic for ESS operation, protection, and grid services (e.g., frequency regulation, capacity firming, renewable energy integration).
- Technical Support: Provide expert technical support throughout the project lifecycle, from initial concept and permitting to construction, commissioning, and handover.
- Standards and Innovation: Stay abreast of the latest advancements in energy storage technology, grid codes, and data/control system practices to drive continuous improvement and innovation in ESS design.
