We are looking for a candidate for a Programmer Analyst I position at the Center for Economic and Social Research at the University of Southern California with a strong quantitative background and interest in aging, public policy, and the social sciences. The programmer will work in a multidisciplinary environment in support of policy research on a wide range of issues related to aging, including health, economics, and psychological measures. The programmer will provide programming support to dataset collection and management from large-scale survey data, as well as to research projects.

The successful programmer will be required to:

  • Design, code, test, debug, document, and maintain complex programs.
  • Use Stata and other statistical programs as necessary (SAS, R) to extract, clean, and manage data in support of the research project.
  • Work with the research team to manage data collection, conduct analyses and/or missing data imputation, and create reports.
  • Acquire a strong understanding of research topics and a thorough knowledge of the data and programming efforts involved.
  • Acquire an understanding of the eligibility requirements of public programs and develop code to evaluate benefit determination in survey data subjects.
  • Participate in research projects on a wide range of topics. Contribute to research designs as needed, participate in the preparation of descriptive and analytical tables, and research papers.

The ideal candidate will have:

  • The ability to produce careful and detail-oriented work.
  • Exceptional problem-solving abilities and strong analytic skills.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Knowledge of statistical programs, Stata experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of statistical methods (regression, ANOVA, t-tests, etc.)

Preferred education: Master’s degree. Bachelor’s degree combined with relevant work experience may be equivalent.

Education requirements: Major in statistics, biostatistics, economics, psychometrics, mathematics, epidemiology, quantitative social sciences, public policy, or related field.

Hourly range: The hourly rate range for this position is $35.16 - $42. When extending an offer of employment, the University of Southern California considers factors such as (but not limited to) the scope and responsibilities of the position, the candidate’s work experience, education/training, key skills, internal peer equity, federal, state and local laws, contractual stipulations, grant funding, as well as external market and organizational considerations.

This is a grant funded position.
