Our Why
Datacom works with organisations and communities across Australia and New Zealand to make a difference in people’s lives and help organisations use the power of tech to innovate and grow.
About the Role (your why)
Datacom is a trusted delivery partner across New Zealand and Australia, delivering complex technology outcomes for large enterprise and government organisations. We’re looking for an experienced Programme Manager to lead high-impact Payroll Implementations spanning business, technology, and change workstreams.
In this role, you’ll lead complex Payroll Implementations from inception through to delivery, ensuring customer outcomes meet the highest standards of quality, compliance, value, and performance. You’ll own programme or project scope, timelines, budgets, governance, and stakeholder engagement across senior customer, vendor, and internal delivery groups.
This is a pivotal role at an exciting time for Datacom, offering the opportunity to shape how we deliver Payroll Implementations and broader workforce transformation outcomes for some of New Zealand and Australia’s largest enterprise and government organisations. Your ability to build trust, navigate complexity, and lead confidently across diverse stakeholder groups will be highly valued.
What You’ll Do:
As a Programme Manager, you will:
- Deliver exceptional outcomes for our customers through successful Payroll Implementation programmes.
- Lead programme governance and delivery across payroll, integration, data, testing, change, and deployment workstreams, ensuring quality outcomes in complex enterprise environments.
- Oversee programme design, planning, and scheduling activities across Payroll Implementations, maintaining alignment with agreed timelines, compliance requirements, and customer expectations.
- Define, source, and manage programme resources; prepare and monitor budgets, secure approvals, and track financial performance and benefits realisation.
- Identify and control programme risks, issues, dependencies, and scope changes, particularly in highly governed and politically sensitive customer environments.
- Build and maintain strong stakeholder relationships across executive sponsors, programme boards, operational leaders, vendors, and delivery teams, using clear communication and effective decision support.
- Manage vendor contracts, delivery partners, and commercial obligations to support successful payroll programme outcomes.
- Lead and mentor programme and project team members, fostering collaboration, delivery discipline, and continuous improvement.
- Navigate the complexity of large enterprise and government customers, balancing competing priorities while maintaining delivery momentum and customer confidence.
- Oversee phases of implementation from requirements analysis through to deployment and transition, ensuring alignment across interdependent projects, teams, and customer stakeholders.
What You’ll Bring:
We are seeking a resilient and adaptable leader who can manage multiple mid to large-scale Payroll Implementation programmes and bring a commercially grounded, customer-focused perspective to our programme delivery capability. Success in this role means delivering complex Payroll Implementations safely and predictably, building trusted relationships with senior stakeholders, enabling high-performing teams, and achieving measurable outcomes for large enterprise and government customers.
You will have:
- Proven experience leading large, complex programmes in enterprise, government, consulting, or managed services environments.
- Demonstrated ability to deliver business-critical implementation or transformation initiatives in large enterprise and government settings, including complex and politically sensitive environments.
- Strong stakeholder management capability, with the ability to influence, align, and communicate effectively with executive sponsors, governance boards, operational leaders, technical teams, and vendors.
- Strong commercial acumen, including experience managing programme budgets, forecasting, margins, benefits realisation, and financial performance.
- Ability to build, lead, mentor, and inspire collaborative programme teams across customer, partner, and internal delivery functions.
- Experience delivering programmes with multiple workstreams such as payroll, HRIS, integrations, data migration, testing, and change management.
- Broad understanding of implementation delivery, governance, and technology dependencies across business and platform landscapes.
- Familiarity with regulatory, compliance, and risk frameworks, particularly within large enterprise or government environments, is advantageous.
- Familiarity with multiple delivery frameworks such as Agile, Waterfall, and hybrid approaches, and the ability to apply them effectively at programme level.
- Relevant programme or project management certifications such as MSP, PMP, PRINCE2, or Agile qualifications are desirable.
