Under the direction of the Manager, leads and/or supports the implementation of Bank of Hawaii’s (BOH) Operational Risk program including managing, executing and maturing risk and control assessment methodologies and workflows, new product and services risk reviews, overall operational risk governance and operational risk reporting efforts. This leader will help accelerate and scale our operational risk management framework directly and visibly contribute to enabling our overall strategy and success.

Responsibilities
  • Manages, executes and matures risk assessment methodologies, templates, reports, and workflows, and effectively coordinates with key stakeholders to maintain and update the Risk and Control Self-Assessment (RCSA) Universe, ensures proper execution of the RCSA plan and trains first-line key stakeholders on risks and control identification and assessment as well as creation of effective business process flows. 
  • Facilitates and coordinates new products, services, and initiative assessments and pre/post implementation risk reviews.
    Facilitates operational risk event management/loss analysis framework and data collection, including detailed reviews of significant events to ensure appropriate remediation.
  • Conducts scenario analysis by working with key stakeholders across the enterprise to develop and quantify scenarios measuring tail risk.
  • Partners closely with the Executive Director, Enterprise & Operational Risk to continually enhance BOH’s risk programs and practices overall, that will help to continuously mature the enterprise risk management framework.
  • Forges relationships and works collaboratively with business partners to operationalize risk management programs, practices, and knowledge within the first line and ensures timely delivery of commitments.
  • Immerses in BOH’s Enterprise Risk Management framework and serves as risk management champion by providing expert level guidance and support to business partners.
  • Researches and has discussions to gain a strong working knowledge of business processes in order to provide the appropriate level of risk / control analysis, review and challenge.
  • Assists in developing risk reports and communicate results to business owners, Operational Risk Committee, and other key stakeholders as needed.
  • Drives discussions with stakeholders in developing action plans for self-identified issues, including root cause analysis and control design and effectiveness, and monitor remediation to timely completion.
  • Maintains an awareness of and monitor the environment for new and emerging legislation, policy statements, relevant trends, and industry best practices and how they might impact BOH.
  • Proactively seeks out process improvement opportunities and technology enablement.
  • Performs all other miscellaneous responsibilities and duties as assigned.
     
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree or higher from an accredited institution and other professional qualifications as applicable or equivalent work experience.
  • Minimum 8 to 12 years in Risk Management, Operational Risk Management or Internal Audit, to include 5 years leading / managing programs or projects, with the proven ability to quickly put structure and guidance in place to deliver results. Experience in banking or financial services industry preferred.
  • Demonstrated proficiency and expertise with personal computers in a networked environment and Microsoft applications (Outlook, Word, Excel, Access and PowerPoint) or similar software. Knowledge of or ability to use Bank software and systems.
  • Experience building and implementing Risk Management programs.
  • Strong analytical skills and demonstrated ability to operate at a strategic level.
  • Inquisitive, critical thinker with business risk awareness, professional skepticism, attention to detail, sound judgment and decision-making ability.
  • Ability to communicate well across all levels of an organization, with excellent written and presentation communication abilities and well-developed influencing skills.
  • Though-leader in risk management practices, with expert-level ability in identifying and assessing risks and controls.
  • Excellent teamwork, interpersonal and conflict resolution skills.
  • Highly organized and capable of dealing with multiple, complex projects simultaneously.
  • Highly-motivated, analytical, organized, innovative, adaptive and a self-starter.
  • Ability to work with limited direction from management.
  • Able to work flexible hours including holidays, weekends and evenings as needed or assigned.

Skills Required
