Job Description

As the Special Projects Manager, you’ll play a key role in developing, launching, and strengthening services statewide. You’ll work closely with the State Director to identify opportunities, respond to RFPs, build new programs from the ground up.  You’ll also step into leadership roles when needed, support internal operations, and represent Dungarvin in community engagement efforts and help drive long-term strategic initiatives.

This position is ideal for someone who can see the big picture, take initiative, and bring creative solutions to life while also staying grounded in day-to-day execution.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Leading the development of high-quality programs and services that support adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities
  • Responding to RFPs and supporting business development efforts that align with Dungarvin’s mission
  • Lead and support the full development process for new programs—from assisting with licensing and location selection to coordinating site setup, staffing, and community outreach.
  • Serving in interim leadership roles, such as Acting Program Director, to support stabilization or expansion of services
  • Building strong, collaborative relationships with regional centers, local agencies, and provider networks
  • Representing Dungarvin at transition fairs, public policy meetings, and provider forums
  • Supporting internal initiatives that enhance service delivery, compliance, and organizational growth

Travel is required, including intermittent overnight trips across California. This position offers some scheduling flexibility, a company credit card, and mileage reimbursement at $0.70 per mile.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Services or related field (experience-based flexibility available)
  • 4+ years of leadership experience in developmental disability services
  • Direct experience in service development or program expansion (e.g., launching new services, responding to RFPs, setting up programs)
  • Experience with Title 17 (service standards) and Title 22 (licensing)
  • Knowledge of California’s Regional Center system
  • Excellent project management, organization, and follow-through
  • Exceptional writing, documentation, and public speaking skills
  • Experience with grant writing or knowledge of grant processes is a strong plus
  • Valid driver’s license and auto insurance

What We Do

A LITTLE ABOUT US:
Dungarvin is a national organization of privately owned companies that provide high quality, community-based supports to people with intellectual and developmental disabilities, people who are faced with mental health, behavioral or significant medical challenges, and to children and their families. Because each individual we support is unique, we strive to provide services that are tailored to each person's own hopes, dreams, goals and needs. Under the support of Medicaid and Community Support Waivers Dungarvin is proud to create custom solutions to each person served.

Mission: "Respecting and responding to the choices of people in need of supports." Dungarvin assists each person we serve to realize his or her own hopes, dreams, goals and aspirations.

PHILOSOPHY:

We believe each person has his or her own set of aspirations, goals, strengths, and dreams.

FUN FACT:

Our founders Tim Madden (24 years old) and Diane (23 years old) decided to start a business that would provide community housing for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Through diligent research and planned Tim and Diane officially opened their first 15 person residential program in St. Paul, Minnesota in March 1976. Tim and Diane were the live-ins for that first program and they have continued their leadership of the organization since. Through the success of that program Dungarvin has grown to employ approximately 4,000 people who currently provide supports to over 4,712 individuals across 14 states.
