Job Description Summary:

The William & Mary Washington Center, located in Mt. Vernon Triangle in Washington, D.C., seeks a full-time Program Coordinator. The Washington Center serves the community of William & Mary students, alumni, staff, faculty, and friends by providing academic and internship opportunities and scholarships for current students, career and networking resources for current students and alumni, engagement and philanthropic opportunities for alumni and friends, event planning resources for W&M staff, and teaching and research opportunities for W&M faculty.
Reporting to the W&M Washington Center Senior Program Manager, the Program Coordinator will be charged with administering one student program, the DC Summer Institutes, and assisting in the W&M Washington Center’s marketing and communication initiatives.

Job Description:

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education, experience, and training.

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.

  • Ability to work some evenings and weekends.

  • Ability to frequently travel to main campus in Williamsburg, VA.

  • Ability to work independently on professional projects without supervision.

  • Ability to work for multiple supervisors simultaneously.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience coordinating an academic program for undergraduate or graduate students, or comparable program experience.

  • Experience working in a higher education setting, coordinating ongoing academic programs.

  • Experience working with faculty members.

Conditions of Employment: 

  • Subject to late nights and early mornings.

  • Subject to frequent travel to campus in Williamsburg, VA.

  • Must be able to travel to the main campus for long days and sometimes overnight.

  • This position may require additional hours beyond the typical work week, including occasional overnight and weekend work as needed to meet the business needs of the operation.

  • This is a non-exempt position, eligible to receive overtime in accordance with the Fair Labor Standards Act. This position may be subject to overtime during high peak times, etc. as directed and approved by the supervisor.

Duties: 

65%- Administrative

  • Administration of the DC Summer Institutes (DCSI), a professional internship student program using extensive experiential learning opportunities. Duties will include:

    • Managing and tracking student applications.

    • Conducting interviews with student applicants.

    • Organizing and facilitating student on-boarding and orientation.

    • Regularly communicating with students.

    • Facilitating a structured student mentorship program.

    • Coordinating student internships, including liaising with students and employer partners.

    • Assist in the administration of the summer internship course including meetings with students and their internship supervisors.

    • Design and run non-academic student programming.

    • Program assessment and adjustments based on that assessment.

    • All other program logistics.

 

30%- Marketing and Communications

  • Led by the Director of Marketing and Communications, the Program Coordinator will be an integral part of the Center’s integrated marketing and communications strategy. Duties include:

    • Assisting in the creation of marketing materials and collateral.

    • Serving as the assistant webmaster for the Washington Center’s online presence.

    • Oversee the purchasing of Washington Center student merchandise.

5%- Other duties as assigned

Posting Range: $47,000 to $55,000, commensurate with experience.
