Salary up to £55,000 depending on experience
The core role of the Prototype & Tooling Production Manager is to manage a technical team focussed on supplying concept and tooling components for all areas of the business. The Dev-Shop team develop piece part manufacturing processes that comply with design for manufacturing principles, the role requires focus on developing the skills of staff to maximise production flexibility and to cater for new machine platforms planned for the department in the future.
A key part of this is setting clear targets and objectives to the team and striving to minimise lead-times for delivery of parts to customers whilst working to a defined budget.
Strategic / long term planning is required within the role, with the Production Manager contributing towards proposals for any additional machinery & personnel within the department.
Key responsibilities
Manage the manufacture and supply of prototype and Tooling components within agreed lead-times.
Maintaining technical skills through training plans and effective coaching.
Ensure that “design for manufacture” principles are adhered to and provide guidance as required.
Relaying of information / good communication to all customers to support performance.
Ensuring high standards of health, safety and housekeeping are maintained
Key requirements
Strong expertise in a range of manufacturing disciplines with thorough understanding of Milling and Turning capability and limitations.
Technical team management/supervision experience.
Experience delivering high-quality manufactured parts within agreed timescales.
Operationally and commercially aware, with the ability to drive productivity through data analysis while maintaining quality and delivery performance.
Previous demonstrable leadership experience within a machine shop, engineering or manufacturing environment, managing supervisors and/or multiple production teams.
Decision-maker by nature who can solve problems independently and take ownership of issues.
Supporting a culture of ownership, urgency, collaboration and continuous improvement.
Strong communication and presentation skills, ability to communicate at all levels.
Confident managing your own activities and meeting deadlines.
Maintain a positive can-do attitude in a high-pressure environment.
Desirable requirements
Experience in Six Sigma problem solving techniques and knowledge of process capability data analysis.
Experience using ERP/MRP systems to support production planning and control
Hands on experience in a metal cutting environment.
Proficient in Microsoft Excel & Word applications.
Experience in use of Siemens NX & Teamcenter.
