Summary:   The Production Fabricator (PF) will be responsible for building the projects approved by the Design Team Management, under the direction and supervision of the Manager of Production Fabrication & Technical Design (MPFTD) as well as the Lead Production Fabricator (LPF). The goal is to maintain and operate in a safe and wholesome manner to ensure the health and safety of all staff. The PF will be expected to follow verbal instructions, as well as written 2d plan drawings.  The PF may be expected to work in areas outside their expertise, always being flexible and teachable, along with being willing to instruct others, if necessary. This attitude of unity is needed to accomplish any/all jobs by the specified end date, which may require additional hours, as deadlines get closer.

There may not be direct contact with the outside public on a day-to-day basis, but occasional tours may be given through the shop area, as well as volunteer help from the general public. At all times, work should be completed with excellence and professionalism, conducting ourselves in a manner worthy of the cause of Christ.

They must possess the ability to interact with staff (at all levels) in a fast-paced environment, sometimes under pressure, remaining pleasant, flexible, proactive, resourceful and efficient, with a high level of professionalism and confidentiality. Expert level written and verbal communication skills, strong decision-making ability and attention to detail are equally important, and they must work independently with little or no supervision.

Responsibilities   

  1. Promote the mission and standards of Answers in Genesis.

  5. Build exhibits, exhibit elements, props, furniture, etc.
  6. Produce exhibits using wood, metal, plastics, foam, etc.
  7. Perform, with skill, various fabrication functions such as welding, cabinet building, mold making, building steel studded walls with sheetrock, finish carpentry work, and spray furniture staining/finishing in a spray booth.
  8. Work successfully with a variety of building materials such as metal, wood, concrete, plastics, foam board, paint/stain and other finishing products, fiberglass and other materials.
  9. Read design drawings and blueprints to produce exhibits and exhibit elements.
  10. Translate concepts into 2D and 3D scale drawings and proficiency in the area of CAD design (Solid Works, AutoCAD and/or Rhino CAD) are a plus.
  11. Proficiency in the cutting and welding of various metals including steel, stainless steel, galvanized steel and aluminum using MIG & TIG welding equipment are a plus.
  12. Follow directions/cut lists with attention to detail when reading design drawings and blueprints to produce exhibits and exhibit elements
  13. Follow proper channels of communication always exhibiting a Christ-like attitude
  14. Work in a safety focused manner following OSHA guidelines and use of proper PPE.
  15. Able to lead teams of volunteers as necessary to complete tasks.
  16. All other duties and responsibilities as assigned by management.

REQUIREMENTS

  1. Able to stay calm and work well under pressure, determine priorities and produce results.
  2. Work creatively with others with the ability to give and take from others’ experience.
  3. Able to work swing or second shift hours when needed.
  4. Teachable and able to give and take from others experience.
  5. Able to multitask.
  6. Work as a team member, being mission focused and driven.
  7. Hands-on position requiring standing, bending and lifting (up to 80lbs). Must be able to perform heavy manual labor and deal with exposure to a variety of weather conditions.
  8. Must safely and effectively utilize chemicals which may present health hazards if not handled properly. Utilize dangerous power and hand equipment which may present health hazards if not used properly.
  9. Knowledge of various fabrication functions such as welding, cabinetry, mold making, general carpentry, finish carpentry, and spray booth operation/finishing is preferred.

Education & Experience

  1. At least 2 years’ experience in wood/metal/ foam/ steel/or fiberglass fabrication
  2. Any Certifications, Certificates of Completion, Licenses, or Degrees in your specified field are strongly encouraged
  3. Current (within 5 years) OSHA 10-hour certificate
  4. High School Diploma or GED equivalent
