Who will you be working with?

We are seeking an experienced Production Engineer to join our team at the Mors Smitt (a Division of Wabtec UK Ltd), based in Burton on Trent.

 

Role: Production Engineer

Location: Based at Mors Smitt, Burton-on-Trent, Staffordshire (DE13 8EN)

Contract Type: Permanent, Full-Time

 

How will you make a difference?

The Production Engineer provides operational engineering support as required with the main focus on improving the core operational delivery through structured process improvement and action facilitation.

 

What will your typical day look like?

  • Provide engineering support for production activities, including new product introduction and existing product improvements
  • Develop, review, and maintain manufacturing processes and work instructions
  • Analyse production data to identify trends, issues, and improvement opportunities
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives, including lean manufacturing and waste reduction
  • Conduct root cause analysis (e.g. 8D, 5 Whys) and implement corrective actions
  • Support quality standards, audits, and compliance with QMS processes
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams including production, quality, and supply chain
  • Ensure health & safety standards are maintained and escalate risks where required
  • Support change management and non-conformance processes

 

What do we want to know about you?

  • HNC/HND in Electrical, Electronic, Mechanical, Software Engineering or equivalent
  • Experience within a manufacturing or operational engineering environment
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, including experience working with data
  • Experience creating and improving work instructions and processes
  • Knowledge of quality tools and methodologies (FMEA, SPC, capability studies, MSA, etc.)
  • Experience of structured problem solving (8D, Ishikawa, 5 Whys, Fault Tree Analysis)
  • Understanding of Quality Management Systems (ISO9001 or similar), including change management and non-conformance processes
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to influence stakeholders
