Production Engineer

Position Summary

The Production Engineer supports end-to-end product flow by proactively identifying manufacturing and delivery risks, providing visibility to operational constraints, coordinating recovery activities, and supporting sustainable flow improvements. The role works closely with Operations, Planning, Quality, Supply Chain, and Engineering while maintaining Operations ownership of manufacturing execution and results.

Principle Responsibilities

  • Review the 13-week sales-order horizon to identify manufacturing and delivery risks before orders become late.
  • Connect Sales Orders, Work Orders, operational requirements, and constraints to provide clear visibility to risks affecting product flow and customer delivery.
  • Analyze aging Work Orders, bottlenecks, queues, WIP, capacity constraints, material/tooling issues, inspection or quality constraints, and batch-size or product-flow issues.
  • Facilitate recovery actions for Yellow and Red risks, ensuring significant risks have an owner, due date, action, and recovery commitment.
  • Track recovery actions through execution and escalate missed commitments or unresolved risks to the appropriate leaders.
  • Identify recurring constraints affecting multiple Work Orders or Sales Orders and support permanent flow improvements.
  • Analyze future machining risks, Work Order schedule adherence, overloaded resources, and excessive queues or WIP within Front-End Operations.
  • Support daily Green / Yellow / Red sales-order reviews and identify Work Orders or components that may threaten shipment.
  • Monitor downstream product flow and shipment readiness, including inspection, cleaning, assembly, quality, and release constraints.
  • Coordinate cross-functional recovery efforts and track shipment-critical actions through closure.
  • Provide analysis to support operational resource and priority decisions while maintaining Operations ownership of execution.
  • Maintain a strong presence on the manufacturing floor to observe product flow, validate constraints, and support timely escalation and resolution.
  • Perform other duties as assigned based on business needs.

Qualification Requirements

Credentials/Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in Manufacturing Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Operations Engineering, or a related technical discipline; equivalent relevant education and manufacturing experience may be considered.
  • Manufacturing, production engineering, process engineering, operations, or related technical experience sufficient to perform the responsibilities of the role.
  • Demonstrated experience analyzing manufacturing flow, production constraints, Work Orders, WIP, schedules, and recovery activities.

Experience/Educational/Training Preferred:

  • Experience in precision machining or a comparable manufacturing environment.
  • Experience working cross-functionally with Operations, Planning, Quality, Supply Chain, and Engineering.
  • Exposure to Lean Manufacturing, continuous improvement, Gemba, root-cause analysis, and structured problem solving.
  • Experience with ERP/MRP systems and manufacturing reporting or dashboard tools.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Strong understanding of manufacturing operations, product flow, scheduling, capacity, WIP, queues, and bottlenecks.
  • Ability to analyze operational data, identify risk early, and translate findings into clear priorities and actions.
  • Strong problem-solving, analytical, organizational, and follow-through skills.
  • Ability to influence and coordinate cross-functional teams without direct ownership of production execution.
  • Ability to challenge recovery plans constructively, track commitments to closure, and escalate missed commitments appropriately.
  • Strong written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently, exercise sound judgment, and adapt to changing manufacturing priorities.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Excel.
