Job DescriptionWe are looking for an experienced Engineering Manager to lead our offshore Data Platform engineering team. This is a hands-on leadership role — you will drive the design, delivery, and governance of our enterprise data platform while managing a high-performing team of data engineers and architects. You will serve as the offshore anchor for platform strategy, working closely with onshore product and architecture teams across time zones.
The ideal candidate brings deep technical fluency across cloud-native data platforms (Azure Synapse, Databricks, Snowflake), strong data governance credentials including hands-on Collibra experience, and a proven track record of leading teams through complex, multi-stakeholder data initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
Team Leadership & Delivery
- Lead, mentor, and grow a team of 8–15 data engineers, architects, and analysts based offshore
- Own sprint planning, backlog grooming, and delivery cadence in alignment with onshore product priorities
- Drive engineering excellence through code reviews, design reviews, and platform reliability standards
- Act as the primary offshore point of contact for escalations, cross-functional dependencies, and stakeholder communication
- Foster a culture of accountability, continuous learning, and psychological safety within the team
Data Platform Architecture & Engineering
- Architect and evolve the enterprise data platform spanning ingestion, transformation, storage, and consumption layers
- Design and implement solutions on Azure Synapse Analytics, Databricks, and Snowflake — selecting the right engine per use case and cost profile
- Establish and enforce best practices for data modeling, ELT/ETL pipeline design, performance tuning, and platform scalability
- Drive Modern Data Stack adoption: dbt, Delta Lake / Iceberg, Unity Catalog, and cloud-native orchestration (ADF, Apache Airflow / ADB Workflows)
- Oversee API and data product layer design in alignment with domain-driven architecture principles
Data Governance & Quality
- Lead the implementation and ongoing operation of the Collibra data governance platform — covering business glossary, data catalog, lineage, policy management, and stewardship workflows
- Define and enforce data ownership, classification, and access control frameworks across Synapse, Databricks (Unity Catalog), and Snowflake
- Partner with data stewards and domain leads to operationalize metadata management and data quality SLAs
- Champion GDPR, data residency, and regulatory compliance requirements at the platform level
- Drive data observability practices using tools such as Monte Carlo, Great Expectations, or equivalent
- Integrate Collibra with upstream and downstream systems to maintain end-to-end data lineage across the enterprise
Cross-functional Collaboration
- Collaborate with onshore architecture, product, and BI teams to translate strategic data needs into platform roadmap items
- Engage with Salesforce, MDM, and CRM integration teams to ensure clean, governed data flows into the platform
- Partner with cloud engineering and DevSecOps on platform infrastructure, CI/CD pipelines, and FinOps (cloud cost optimization)
- Communicate platform health, roadmap progress, and risk clearly to senior leadership
Required Qualifications
Experience
- 10+ years in data engineering or data platform roles, with at least 3 years in an engineering management or team lead capacity
- Proven offshore delivery leadership — managing distributed teams across geographies and time zones
- Demonstrated end-to-end ownership of a cloud data platform in a production enterprise environment
Technical Skills – Platforms
- Azure Synapse Analytics: Dedicated and Serverless SQL pools, Spark Pools, Synapse Pipelines, integration with ADLS Gen2
- Databricks: Delta Lake, Unity Catalog, Databricks Workflows, cluster management, and cost optimization
- Snowflake: Data sharing, Snowpark, dynamic data masking, RBAC, query performance tuning, and Snowflake cost governance
Technical Skills – Data Governance
- Collibra: Business glossary, data catalog, lineage configuration, stewardship workflow design, Collibra DQ, and integration with cloud data platforms
- Data classification, sensitive data handling (PII/PCI), and policy enforcement at the platform layer
- Familiarity with Unity Catalog (Databricks) and Snowflake's native governance controls as complements to Collibra
Technical Skills – Engineering
- Strong SQL and Python; working knowledge of Scala or Java is a plus
- dbt (data build tool) — model design, testing, documentation
- Data pipeline orchestration: Apache Airflow, Azure Data Factory, or Databricks Workflows
- CI/CD for data: version control, automated testing, and deployment pipelines (Azure DevOps / GitHub Actions)
- Data modeling: dimensional modeling, Data Vault 2.0, or medallion architecture (Bronze / Silver / Gold)
- MDM concepts and integration patterns; Salesforce data integration experience is an advantage
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with Master Data Management (MDM) platforms (Informatica MDM, Reltio, or equivalent)
- Exposure to event-driven data architectures: Kafka, Azure Event Hubs, or Databricks Structured Streaming
Leadership Competencies
- Bias for ownership: Takes accountability for platform outcomes, not just team activity
- Technical credibility: Earns trust with engineers through depth, not just title
- Asynchronous communication: Writes clearly, documents decisions, and bridges the offshore-onshore gap effectively
- Talent development: Builds career paths, runs structured 1:1s, and grows the team's capability over time
- Stakeholder management: Translates business intent into engineering priorities without losing either side
