Healthcare fraud and abuse investigation is still largely manual - investigators piece together evidence across disconnected systems before they can act. We are changing that with agent-driven tools that automate evidence gathering, surface insights, and accelerate case development so investigators can move faster and decide with confidence.
As a Technical Product Manager, you will focus on a specific set of capabilities within a larger product, going deep to deliver well-executed features that create measurable value for users. You will work in close partnership with a Senior Product Manager who sets the broader roadmap, turning strategy into high-quality execution within your area of focus.
This is a hands-on individual contributor role for someone who has built systems where agents reason, plan, and take action across tools and workflows to drive real outcomes. You will apply AI-native, spec-driven development practices in which agents help produce production-ready software and humans govern the results.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Own your focus area: Define, prioritize, and deliver features, user stories, and acceptance criteria for your set of capabilities, aligned to the direction and roadmap set by the Senior Product Manager
- Design agent behavior: Within your area, shape how agents work - what tasks they perform, how work is decomposed, and where human-in-the-loop review, escalation, and approval checkpoints belong
- Own evaluation, trust, and governance: Establish evaluation criteria for your capabilities - accuracy, precision/recall, hallucination and error rates, and behavioral quality - recognizing that agentic systems are probabilistic and cannot be validated by pass/fail tests alone. Own quality, traceability, and auditability, which are critical in a regulated environment
- Partner with data science and engineering: Collaborate daily with AI/ML, engineering, and UX partners on model reasoning, retrieval, orchestration, and reviewer-facing experience to ensure solutions are feasible, scalable, and explainable
- Drive execution: Run agile delivery for your area - backlog management, sprint planning, dependency management, and release readiness - and proactively remove blockers to keep delivery on track
- Measure outcomes: Track impact for your capabilities - investigator time saved, evidence-synthesis quality, automation and coverage rates, and false-positive impact - not just delivery velocity
- Operate in a matrix: Influence and coordinate across engineering, analytics, operations, and product stakeholders spanning US and India teams and time zones
- Comply with the terms and conditions of the employment contract, company policies and procedures, and any and all directives (such as, but not limited to, transfer and/or re-assignment to different work locations, change in teams and/or work shifts, policies in regards to flexibility of work benefits and/or work environment, alternative work arrangements, and other decisions that may arise due to the changing business environment). The Company may adopt, vary or rescind these policies and directives in its absolute discretion and without any limitation (implied or otherwise) on its ability to do so
Required Qualifications:
- 4+ years of experience in technical product management, product ownership, or technology delivery
- 3+ years defining requirements, writing user stories, and managing agile backlogs
- 1+ years using tools such as Jira, Rally, or Azure DevOps for backlog management
- Hands-on experience delivering with AI-native, spec-driven development practices and comfort operating where agents do the heavy lifting and people govern the results
- Experience defining evaluation and human-in-the-loop frameworks for probabilistic or non-deterministic systems
- Demonstrated success shipping production agentic or AI-native products - systems that autonomously reason, plan, orchestrate tasks across tools, and take action (e.g., multi-agent orchestration, tool use, retrieval, and evaluation)
- Proven solid technical fluency across APIs, data flows, and cloud-based platforms, with the ability to reason about how architectural choices affect product decisions
- Proven solid analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to bring clarity to ambiguous, complex problems
- Proven excellent communication and collaboration skills across technical and business teams, and the ability to operate effectively in a highly matrixed organization
Preferred Qualifications:
- Post-graduate degree (MBA) or equivalent; a background in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field
- Product or Agile certification (CSPO, PSPO, SAFe POPM, or similar)
- Experience in fraud, waste, and abuse; special investigations (SIU); payment integrity; or claims/investigative workflows
- Experience partnering with data science, AI/ML, analytics, or automation teams
- Experience working across US and India teams and time zones
- Familiarity with agent frameworks and supporting infrastructure (e.g., LangGraph, CrewAI/AutoGen, MCP, vector databases, knowledge graphs)
At UnitedHealth Group, our mission is to help people live healthier lives and make the health system work better for everyone. We believe everyone-of every race, gender, sexuality, age, location and income-deserves the opportunity to live their healthiest life. Today, however, there are still far too many barriers to good health which are disproportionately experienced by people of color, historically marginalized groups and those with lower incomes. We are committed to mitigating our impact on the environment and enabling and delivering equitable care that addresses health disparities and improves health outcomes - an enterprise priority reflected in our mission.
